Hey,
Been quite busy with chasing boxes lately, it being summer and all I had nothing better to do . Started out with the minty Watson RR 5600 I already posted.
Then I spotted a TEC 4040 AKA named Ferguson 3T22 for just £ 10 ! Liked that box ever since I saw it and jumped on it. Collection only in Southampton though, so I took a little trip.
Then a nice Crown CSC-850L popped up on ebay UK. I was sure it was going for £ 100 or more, but I was ecstatic to get it for £ 41 ! Some real bargains these two.
The Ferguson has the looks but not the sound to match.. I think there's something wrong with the tape mechanism because when you have whistles or bells they always sound way out of tune and kind of swaying instead of constant.. But it's surprisingly loud for it's size but not very powerful bass. It's also missing all but one of the switches on the front and the tip of the antenna . If anyone has some switches I want to buy them. It's a good midsize-small box and I love it's style.
The Crown is my new flagship I think. It's sound is superior to my other radios with loudness, clearness and that mega-deep bass , possibly beaten by the ISC STR-5091 that goes a bit louder. It also looks almost new after cleaning and nothing missing. Cassette not working tho, but I prefer AUX on it so I can choose songs. Good weight and with the shoulder straps it's great to carry around. Sometimes it turns off for no reason but works after a restart. Great box for a great price!
Then I threw in some pics of my low-end boxes, the green Panasonic RX 5030 L I painted myself and it turned out alright I think, need some practice . It sounds surprisingly good for such a small box as well. The other one I got for free from member Waxer who lives close-by, thanks again man . A Prinz STR 8080, cleaned up it looks alright, not my style tho because there's no chrome or led etc. It will be a beach-box maybe or I'll lend it to someone. Quite heavy though, works good though and sounds alright.
So that's the latest box-news, stay tuned for my latest buy-to-arrive the LASONIC TRC-931 2nd edition I bought recently from USA ! !
Plenty of pictures for your visual enjoyment:
Peace
