Wazup,

Thought I'd post a few pictures of my latest loveaffair - Watson RR 5600
Got this box cheap and it turned out the seller had a Swedish boyfriend and that they were going here on vacation! So I got it PERSONALLY delivered to my city! From Germany ! FREE :-D . Oh well, when I had a look at the box I was even happier, no major scratches or dents, just not in tip-top shape. But after cleaning it properly with just water and a sponge and polishing the chrome it looked almost new! They said none of the decks worked, I though FM-transmitter premier, but the top deck plays great. The sound is good, but I expected more from such large speakers. It's not super heavy either, but it's eyecandy and I love it  .
The only problem I have is that it does not run on batteries! This sucks, because I can't show it off. I took some pictures of the inside, maybe someone who has one can help me figure out what's wrong? All wires seem intact but nothing works with batteries, tried different kinds as well  .

So enojy:

This is the best-looking box I've got and I'm really pleased with it.
What do you guys think?

Peace.

Very nice, I had the AKA Helix 4636 and the sucker was loud. Your issue with batteries most Likely is the micro switch is dirty/rusty where the cord plugs into box. You may need to sand the two metal leafs that connect battery power. Good luck!!!

Congratulations for the wonderful boombox.
One reason for not running on battery is this little switch in the red circle.
It switches power between battery and transformer. Check it.

As squeaky clean as that box is, I have to agree with Bill and goodman.
Great score!
It took me a second to figure out what I was looking at in the picture of the tuning knob. :dunce:

Well scored!!
I love this box too, does your have SUPER flimsy speaker grills that bend just from pushing them slightly?
They're a great ghettoblaster for sure! A must have for every black-box collector.

Rock On.

I have a second proposal:
To change the power transformer. You need a 110v AC to 15v DC, 50 watts min. transformer.

15 watts per channel? :hmmm:
Has nothing to do with the output, if the speakers were changed to ones with 100 watts printed on them the amp still has the same wattage output as when the originals were in there. To put it another way, speaker drivers require an amp to run, the amp outputs power in watts, hence the speaker has no wattage they output, but they do consume the power and have a power handling capacity. The 8-15w printed is nominal and peak rating and in no way related to the amp section.

The only accurate thing to read off a speaker magnet is the impedance.

Thanks for all the positive comments :),
And no Gluecifer, the speaker grills are sturdy and very firm :).
But BaddboyBill, I don't understand what I'm supposed to do with these leafs. Heck, I don't even know what the metal leafs are  ! I've never done this before, do you also mean the switch that goodman encircled? The wires there are all connected firmly, how do I then sand these metal leafs? Do I unscrew the whole thing  ? Maybe you could show me on the pictures.

Thanks,
Elias

Yes the switch that goodman circled has metal leafs that can get dirty and rust over time. When you pull cord from back the leaf is released to touch other leaf and that closes circuit so you can use battery power and opens circuit of AC...Sometimes a good shot of deoxit or contact cleaner inside switch can help. After you spray it in you use cord to activate and deactivate leaf switch by plugging and unplugging from unit...However if rusted bad you need to actually sand off rust. Good luck
