I finally settled on a new camera and she arrived in the post today. It's a Fuji Finepix S1500, I really love the colour reproduction on the Fuji's I'd seen and this 'bridge' model seemed to perform with just the right amount of point-and-shoot and fiddling about for me to get the most out of it. For AU$278 including deliver from Hong Kong and a few bonus (including an 8 gig SDHC card) I am extremely happy with my purchase. Thanks to everyone who helped out in the camera thread I made a while back too, was very educational and made my decision that bit easier to make.

I intend to rephotograph most of my collection now that I can get clean and detailled shots, but I started with a few that I'd not properly posted, plus a couple of earlier ones from my collection that are all dressed up now thanks to Bobby's wonderful repro labels.

I've scaled the images back to 45% of their original size, but they'll still take a while to come down, so those with slower internet connections please forgive me.

Ok, time to ROCK ON!

First is my new Technics SA-CO5S. Always wanted this three piece, I'm endeavouring to only collect the higher end 3 piece boxes now and this fits into this category beautifully. Sounds fantastic and is in nearly mint condition. I always find it a bit disappointing when I get a radio in the post and theres nothing to be done to it to bring her up to scratch, but I quickly get over it as soon as I get her blasting. Really love this one, awesome meters and features and the sound packs a HUGE punch for the size.

Next is the classic Toshiba RT-8860S. This was on my list when I first started collecting, classicdesign and just really beautiful lines. She really speaks for herself.

My second Conion is the ghettobabe known as the C-126F. Superlative design and what these things are all about. Many elements and features lifted directly from the C-100F and they look so good together too. Was really surprised to find this locally as Conion gear was never widely distributed down here in Australia. But she's definitely a permanent fixture in my collection now.

My BigBen was at my repairer's for nearly 5 months, and I missed her dearly every day, but now she's back fully functioning she's become my go-to radio for most everything now. The tape sound quality in this is amazing, and is excellent for recording too. It's a shame the body is just a little too deep to carry comfortably with a strap, otherwise she'd be coming to work with me every day.

And here's my custom 777, even with the replaced speakers I wanted to get Bobby's hot labels on her as the overall condition is very good.

To finish one of my all time favourites, the GF-9494X, a truly boss ghettoblaster in every respect. All dressed up and ready to rock!

Love the boomboxes, and the quality of the photos. I especially like the MX-960k. Isn't it funny how the center grills all seem to be stained like that?

Beautiful boxes and photos! The previous owner of my Big Ben chose to replace to speaker cover with a fabric that, while unstained, hardly looks original. Stains or no stains, I like your "authentic" speaker cover better!

Cool boxes Rick - that Toshiba is beautiful.

The photos are great, those Fuji's rock, I have a z100fd and love it.

Nice detailed pics! Congrats!

Of those posted, I'm particularly partial to that Toshiba as well.

Sound wise, I'm betting that Sanyo is probably the best of that lot, eh?

Really nice...

Thanks guys! Should get some more done this weekend.

Ramon: it runs on it's own powerpack. The AC transformer unplugs from the back compartment and apparently a rechargeable battery pack, or housing for a bunch of D's (not sure which) goes in there. I don't have it unfortunately, but I'll see if i can fabricate something- if i can work out it's just a battery container.

There were two options with the SC-A05. One was a rechargable pack much like the Sony FH-7. And like the FH-7 you also could get a pack that would accept D cells. (The Pioneer CK-5 and up series did this too.) But...like the FH-7 (and other powerhouse boxes that did accept batteries, less the National/Panasonic RX-C100) you will have nowhere near the power that you do on AC. You actual output will drop to something around 5w or so per channel.

Fabbing a plastic insert shouldn't be too hard as there really isn't any funky shapes to deal with except at the contact points to transfer power and to hold it in place. Let me know how it goes! :-D

(Note: The RX-C100 is not as powerful on batteries as AC either, but does far better than the Telefunkens / Sansui / Pioneer/ Sony etc. powerhouses. But it also drains batteries like a vampire would drain a hot coed alone in a graveyard. )
