New Arrival & A Nice Surprise!

Parcel arrives this morning that I had almost forgotten was coming...........

Wrapped up extremely well by the seller as promised so all looked promising

It was!! - How often do any of us receive a stereo that needed just a polish up, a head & roller clean & a replacement aerial?? I mean this didn't really need cleaning tbh, no layers of dust in the handle bay or round the rear inputs, the usual places that turn up really dirty!!

Must have been cared for all it's life & I am over the moon with it - Members may remember that I was only interested in one piece Sanyo (Mostly) mini's & a few other mini's!!

Somehow after a while, I had hears from a few saying that 3 piecer's can be really worth having & some sound amazing...........

Having had a 460 for a year, I know these are strong performers so I wanted this one & won it for a mere £50 delivered!

What can I say? Look & listen yourselves to the Fisher PH-430LG Portable Compo System

Soft touch, Dolby, 5 band graphic along with music search a decent tuner, manual recording level & a powerful amplifier!!

Only change I am going to make is to replace the horrid speaker wires with something of better quality..........

But For Now: Viola!!

That's a nice looking Boombox I remember a friend of mine having one of these and it sounded really good I was kind of jealous at the time.

Fisher had a great run, just before they started putting out their CD line and their decline in quality.

This looks like one of there quality boxes.

I saw one on eBay for cheap but if I had the money I would have got it because my buddy had one and I thought it was really nice boombox.

What I like about most all of your boxes Nick is most are feather touch motorized transports. Usually a sign of a higher quality tape deck. I look for these myself.

I have one box that doesn't have a motorized lifting transport and you can really tell a difference in quality with W/F levels plus it doesn't auto-stop after a complete FF / Rew so there is even more potential for burning the motor out or flat spotting the belt if you were to go off and leave it while Rewinding or FF'ing. I don't use that box much due to that. All my other boxes are full logic feather touch and that is really the way to go IMO.

As a postscript to the above post..............

I noticed that every now & then the right channel woofer was making the dreaded 'Coil Rub' noise, not all the time but still very annoying nonetheless!!

A quick search through the dozens of spare speakers turned up a pair of 6 inch woofers out of a large generic 3 piece scrapped long ago! Still with same size & type of tweeters attached made these a perfect choice especially as the woofers had a bigger magnet & were nice acoustic suspension type of speaker........

An afternoon spent plodding along (I am finding it very difficult these days) & replacing the horrid speaker cables that had seen better days along with the drivers which fitted perfectly saw to the end of the original problem!!

Nice warm bass from the woofers & crisp highs from the tweeters - Woofers have a larger cone area & larger surround than the tired old originals resulting in a better overall sound!! The dust cap is also larger & looks great!

The bass really plods along nicely on a dance track!! You will need headphones or decent desktop speakers to hear how deep it goes now - the usual audio limiter struggles as my phone is just too close!! lol
