Small (but beautifully formed ) feature packed Aiwa just in from eBay.
In great overall condition with very few signs of use and as per normal a non-funtioning cassette no doubt due (hopefully)to disintegrated bands.

It now awaits a visit to a boombox doctor to fix up the deck.

Loads of features for the time including twin VUs,ALC and seperate recording level controls,chrome/normal tape,bass/treble controls. Tape memory setting as well as a loudness setting and mono/stereo/wide .
Lots of stuff for a "small" box and it weighs a mighty 5kg (11lbs) excl the 6 batteries.
The density of the internal components apparently make it a bit tricky to work on -so I`m leaving it to an expert.

four speakers arrange in a wrap around formation.
Great sound .

I`ve already popped batteries in and they work so no corrossion probs.]
Radio has great reception with the massive 10 section extending aerial (original)
Can`t wait to finish cleaning it up nd getting the tape up and running..Aiwa`s tape decks were almost always great quality.
I may update with a full review when fixed up.

Thanks @Hisrudeness.. the late '70s very/ early 80's were the golden age I suppose in terms of build quality for the likes of Aiwa,JVC,Hitachi,Panasonic and a few other brands. Some of the bigger early 80's stuff was bigger and great looking and sometimes sounding but not always made quite as well.
Being bigger though they often had the benefit of being easier to work on.
Of course everyone.loves a pair of VUs vs LEDs

What a beauty! I have a friend with one of these and I've been impressed with the sound quality, great speaker set up too.

Missed this original posting.
Cool box, kind of reminds me of a Marantz crs-4000.
I love the big push buttons especially the loud/reset.
