It's all awesome but the selection of reel tapes is incredible.
The 9494 is a very cool box, sound quality isn't quite up to the looks but that leaves a lot of room for interpretation and it's very loud.
The Crown is consistently considered one of the great vintage boxes so it's hard to go wrong there.

Thanks mate, the reels weren't incredibly cheap, they're £15 on ebay in the UK for 6 but are C60's and were free shipping.
If anyone wants some let me know I can ship them out no problem. The seller was fast and threw in 1 extra!

The crown and the Sharp turned up today.
A little dissapointed with some of the marks on each of them but otherwise really nice. The Sharp is open on the table getting re-belted
A good cleaning needed which I think some of which will rectify but looks like a little pitting is going on

Congrats on the boxes and I feel for you on the pitting, that drives me a little nuts too. Don't mind it so much on beaters but when you want a nice box it can be annoying.

The tape deck on the Sharp is chewing tapes. Could this be a case of that rubber spacer thingy on the flywheel needs a new one or something ?

99.9% probable.

Do I have to get into the bottom of the deck to get at the spacer or just take the top of the left hand wheel off ? Still not quite sure where it is exactly

I could be very wrong but that pitting looks like it might be other crap that can be removed with a mould remover, if it's got a greenish tinge it may be removable... but you know better than I do as to what it is!

That capstan tire deally is up the top, you need to take the back off the the deck mech and it becomes fairly easy to get at.
Cleaning up the remnants of the old one will probably take more time than finding her.
