well blokes the title says it all really....just got today a rare hitachi trk w1e with the detachable top walkman.trouble is its in a world of pain and im struggling to help it myself.....
1.the walkman needs new belts....with my big hands?no way
2.noticed on testing it the bottom deck is humming but the pinch roller isnt turning so it seems something is jammed.and to that end ive tried to free up the deck inside and nothing.also has anyone dealt with this deck before?multiple belted and ive seen nothing like it since i had my tpr 990 aiwa :hmmm: complicated is an understatement
so heres the big question....if your more of a tech than me and you live near me in west yorkshire and fancy coming over and helping me fix it,please pm me,i know how rare these are in the uk so want to get it working again :w00t:
thanks in advance brothers in boombox world ;-)

yey,it worked :w00t: cant believe it!now, can anyone help me? :-)
I could, but I have potatoes for hands so would probably get stuck and have a personal cassette player attached to me for the rest of my life.

And seriously; yes, but I'll not be passing through the West Riding again until the end of June, give or take a week or two.
You'd be welcome to fetch it up here, there's a National Express coach stop only five miles away if you don't have a car. I could probably do the necessary while you wait but to be sure of that I'd need to see detailed images of the transport mech. How about sitting it on the scanner at your library and taking pics that way?

Fingers crossed for you man. I have a mate who does house clearances and he once gave me a big Grundig multiband radio that I cleaned up and sold on eBay for an obscene amount of cash, he wouldn't take a penny of it!
I really hope you post on here later to tell us that your buddy has given you a mint, boxed GF-777 that was bought and never used.

hi john, well i got a fully working panasonic rx c41 with deck door sticker and an aiwa tpr 920,for 15 quid the pair!see below for representative pics off the net:
the aiwa needs some cosmetics doing, needs me to make a new door hinge but ive already done the belts which were a nightmare due to one melted belt and the whole flywheel had to come out and be cleaned,as did the motor itself (the pulley for the belt only of course lol),but its singing on the deck again now even if it will take days to get the belt residue properly off my hands  .but it sounds absolutely great, with as much bass as high end 70s gf's so was worth the effort and money :-D
as i said the panasonic is fully working, and sounds so good for such small speakers,a bit like my old c45 really.still needs a good cleaning but ill get to that-my first in ages with a deck door sticker still on there :w00t:
my house clearance guy has found me all sorts down the last 2 years, including a marantz, proline ptx 1000 (6 speaker job fashioned like a gf777),sharp vz2000,sanyo m9990,totally mint sharp gf9090,and various other bits and bobs-all gone now but hes a top bloke and anything comes in he puts it to one side for me and i just get in touch with him once a week to see if he has anything.keep going with your house clearance guy john mate as you never know what he will turn you up-good luck with your guy too,the most important thing is these type of guys are cheap enough too-i only paid £40 off him for the vz when i had it!
