Hey Boomboxery aficianados -- I'm a producer with Vsauce2, a science and technology channel on YouTube. We're working on a new video that features a Sharp Trimate 5000 (3S-70) boombox... and we need some serious boombox expertise.

We're trying to nail down what year it was made and what the retail price was. A manual would be amazing, too, but I struck out so far trying to find one on forums.

Anyone got any leads for us? We're happy for any information we can get here!

I have the same box, don’t have the information action though, sorry! You can normally check what month and year it was made via a date stamped into the inside of the casing though

Woah -- this is GREAT.

Just ran the numbers and it works out to about $1,700 USD in today's dollars assuming a 1980/81 production date.

It would be awesome to get a manual or advertisement -- this model is really, really cool.

This is a bit high. In 1981, the exchange rate for a dollar was 2 marks so DM998 back then was $499. Depending on what part of 1981 you start from, it's worth between $1,316 and $1,422.

I am guessing 1978 or 1979, because it is styled like the GF-9191 which also came out then.
