I keep restoring a vz-3000. Now, i block on the operation of the tonearm side A.
It tries to put the stylus on the LP but the engine runs continuously until the end of the drive of the face of the LP.
And the B. face works properly...
A solution to offer me

Thank you

Does the side “A” tone arm place the needle on the LP and drag across the vinyl or stay just above as it travels to the end? Are both needles new? Maybe try flipping cartridges and see if the “B” side cartridge runs the “A” side properly.

Good luck

Thank you for your advice.
I confirm the side "A" tone arm place the needle on the LP and drag across the vinyl up to it travels to the end (link to videos).
Both needles are new.
I tried to interchange the cartridges but still the same thing.

The tone arm "A" is too low but I do not know how to position it without it falling.

About all I can get from video is the side A solenoid is working to drop tone arm in your video but not locating properly to start playback. Fortunately there is a service manual in the library here on the site. Try looking over the mechanical adjustments first and see if something makes itself apparent before looking into an electrical issue. Also, try and study your side B movement for any clues. I’m sure you are aware but there are quite a few switches and photo sensors that work between both tone arms / door operation / general motor direction... so if a fault arises a service manual is imperative.

Sorry I’m not of much help but I love the VZ Sharp’s and hope you can get yours working properly
Good luck

Thank you for yours answers and your advice.
I compared on another tonearm. My problem comes from adjusting the position of the rod (see photo). On my VZ, the stem is too high (BAD) which prevents the stylus from landing properly on the LP.

How do I adjust this rod?

Thank you for your help

Hi,

Hard to confirm but looks like cable might be inside guide post when looking at your “bad” example. I would remove screw that is pointing up and down and re-route cable on the outside of the post where it will be closest to the camera riding on the outside of the screw. Make sure cable stays on inside of metal guide positioned to the right of that vertical screw. See if that helps your problem at all.

When I get a chance I’m going to look at my vz 2000 to see if the cable setup is similar or not. I never really looked that closely at the operation of the tone arms, as I got lucky having a fully operational turntable once all belts were replaced.

Good luck with it

There looks too much slack in the cable you should check all of the rollers that the cable rides on and make sure you adjust the tension at the only adjustment point in the pictures you posted need the lineup the Loctite spot on the cable with the lock tight spot on the cable set screw.

The tonearm is raised and lowered by an electrical servo so you must check the free play and the working order of the servo that releases the tonearm so that it can drop down on the record.

Hi Funkateer38,

Did you ever resolve this problem and if so, how?
I think I'm having the same issue ~ but for me it happens for 'Side B'.

I decided to replace the A side tonearm and it only works with the headphones. But now no sound on the other side B, radio, cassette. Very frustrating.
