Still in the teardown mode on the Clairtone and need to but some attention into this plate . Has some pretty deep scratches in it . Would vinyl lettering be the way to go for replacement lettering . I'm guessing screen printing would be costly and hard to do .

Find a Letraset sheet whose font matches and use that. You'll need to key the surface of the aluminium substrate first, or the transfers won't stay, and ideally give it a quick scoosh with clearcoat afterwards, for protection but Letraset's what I always use and it works. (It's also dry, so no need for the saucer of water that other lettering products tend to need for releasing the characters).

I know the discussion is about replacing the letters but what if I just want to clean an aluminum plate like this? What's the best product to use that will not damage the lettering and finish?

take a picture of the name plate and print it to scale then laminate it and glue it on . i know it sounds simple ,simpler than it is lol.

Some here have used 800 grit sandpaper without damaging the ink. I'm not sure that would help a scratch so deep though.

Nameplate places do small runs all the time, it may not cost that much for a simple rectangle like you have with no cutouts, notches or bends. Could be worth checking into if you can get a sharp reproduction of the graphics, with a scanner or camera. Would be much better than some sticker.

Thanks Guys ! I didn't even think of the dry transfers ! I'm creating a vector graphic now in Photoshop/Illustrator so I can get quotes for both custom dry transfers and vinyl lettering. If the cost is on point I would prefer the dry transfer ( with clear over metal , then apply transfers , and final coats of clear ). I do believe there is a clear coat over the original print but I would still be cautious using anything too abrasive to clean it with . Unlike mine that has some pretty deep scratches in it forcing me to go right down to the raw aluminum .

i guess the only solution is to spend money and have one made or reproduce the original.

Well , got the art work done and have a couple requests out for custom dry transfer decals and one for vinyl lettering . Should be interesting to hear the results .

First quote for custom dry transfer in @ just over $120.00
I'm like you, I like things done right. It sucks when your wallet puts limits on your creativity. I bet Da Vinci and Michealangelo didn't have these restrictions. 😡

Measure an e and an r and then order a Letraset of that size in Quicksand Bold. As long as the surface isn't too fine and they're applied correctly, these things are at least as durable as an original that's now starting to come away. :-)

Got second dry transfer quote , also @ $120.00 . So I contacted a buddy that does custom water slide decals and am having 2 sets sent for $15.00 . I will cut them big enough so the carrier paper can be folded over the sides hiding the "halo" that the carrier paper creates . With a couple coats of clear coat they will be well protected . Quicksilver font is not the same as used in the original .

Ooops , my bad . I miss typed it  . The samples I have found so far show the "r" as different . Gonna see how this wet transfer works , fingers crossed and make changes if needed .
