Name brand labels then and now

Once thing I am noticing about the 80s radios is that the brands were clearly written into the radio design, with raised lettering in heavy plastic or chrome. :-)

Today, they put the brand name on with a sticker, or paint. :sad:

Do they really think that if the label wears off we will forget what company we bought it from? Are they that embarrased of their quality these days?

i WISH mine looked 1/2 that good --
that was a gorgeous shot of a mint 580 owned by an old s2g member = daiwa

he brought it to an electronics trade show-
and caught the cool lighting :drool: :cool:

It's all about saving money. Altho raised lettering was common in the eighties, there were plenty of silkscreened and stickered brand names back then, too, especially on lower-end models. On one of the few high-end boomboxes that remain, the JVC Kaboom, you'll still find the logo in raised lettering.

i have been parading all over my trailer tonight --- :-D
to check out these nice old raised letterings ..

aiwa. panny , sharp , grundig, lasonic, pioneer, toshiba, ITT , sanyo--
even VINIX !!!!!!

My Pioneer has 5 count them 5 chrome polished emblems!! :-) :cool:
Sharps are very nice-especially GF series-raised and beautiful!! :yes:

That trade show is in Daves his basment. :-)
That box is a little tank for sure and very minty as well.
I got to mess around with it while I was visiting with him in Denver.

oooops -- thought you met up with dave at the annual trade show --out there :-)

still --thats a very hard shot to reproduce --
i tried it with my 580 --using a blue light from the monitor -
came close --but -- not really :-D
