The LX-5 is a very well regarded 3-head deck. Don't be fooled by the flat looking design. The panel under the multi-segment VU's on the right flips down and reveals the dolby, tape type, monitor and bias controls.
This is one of those 3-head Naks that doesn't have any auto azimuth, or special calibration features... but it is a very, very good 3-head performer. I would rank it up there with the BX-300. With the deck dialed in for TDK SA or XL-II tapes, you'll get outstanding results and be able to fine-tune bias for most tape types to ensure great results.
Except for the ancient 700 tri-tracer models from the 70's (and which sell for much more) the LX-5 is the only 3-head Nak I know of that has silver cosmetic design elements. I like the huge VUs
I've never used the LX-5 and my comments above are from shopping around and reading comments on tapeheads.net. But, IIRC, member JamesWP67 had one for sale earlier this year. He could give you first hand opinion....
