My weirdest ebay purchase yet...

As many of you know I recently purchased a Sony FH-207 on ebay. Initially the seller wanted $180 for the item. I sent him an offer of $120 and he accepted. The radio arrived in excellent condition and packed very well. After hearing how the unit sounded I thought I stole it. I gave him a very positive ebay feedback.

Then something very strange happened. Yesterday for no reason at all, he refunded me $75 of the purchase price. I was absolutely stunned!! That brought the price of this Sony down to $45... :w00t: ...he never sent an explanation as to why the refund was sent but I was happy to accept his gift. Has anything like that ever happened to anyone here??

I have a feeling that he negotiated a settlement with a different party and refunded the wrong transaction.

Great deal, but I'll make it even better! I'll give you 50$ for it, giving you a clean 5$ profit. :w00t:

That's a sweet-ass deal! Wish I could get that kind of treatment every now and then!

Congratulations!

I thought about that...of course if he emails me that it was done by mistake I would give it back... :-D ...lucky for him I am honest. Of course if I never hear from him I guess it is my gain.

Don't think I've ever had anybody throw money at me for no reason so yeah it's a little strange.
The only reason I can think of is a mistake like others have said and if it was a mistake I can't imagine he wouldn't contact you soon. :hmmm:

Best to come out of this smelling like a rose...I'd send the e-mail...if he has that many irons in the fire that he'd goof like that, he may just not miss it. :hmmm:

I know it's tough being the good guys, but you always want that good karma on your side.

Well hopefully if it was a mistake, ebay/paypal dont catch it otherwise you may owe it back  But on the bright side at least your $75 richer

I was refunded $2 once from a seller who said he overcharged me for postage and was sorry. I was so surprised that I wrote him a long, gushy, over-the-top thank-you for his kindness and honesty. And that was for a measly two bucks! I can't imagine how I'd react to a surprise $75 refund. Probably drive to the seller's house and buy him dinner. EBay sellers are lots of things, but generous usually isn't one of them.

Good luck with your email, Melly. That was the right thing to do. Hope it turns out the refund is for real.

:agree: BSL, seems very few are this honest anymore.

I often refund $2 or more for shipping overcharging and most of the time I don't even get a thank you which in a way kind indicates the lowered character of most of the poeple I deal with, kind of sad actually.

The closest I have ever come to that is my wife refunded $60 through paypal to the wrong person.....never heard from that guy again and lost the money! :-/

...that sucks. Most people aren't honest enough to return it. If he did it by mistake I am happy to return it because I got a great deal in the first place...but if his intention was to give it to me I am happy to accept it... :-D

The guy I was dealing with was kind of shady in the first place and when I hit him up explaining what happened, I heard nothing!
