Hi All, another Aussie VZ-2000 owner here.

I bought this one about 6 weeks ago for around $230. standard issues, record player didn't work, cassette player less than perfect and several missing sliders.

I promptly ordered a couple of new belts for the turntable... When they turned up, I cracked it open and began the long and awfully messy task of removing the old turntable belt....

I then reassembled the beast and fired it up only to find the turntable was running way too slow, I cracked it open once more, set the turntable speeds on the back of the turntable and hey presto, She booms once more!!!!

next job will be to do the sliders, demagnetize the heads, and replace the antenna.

Stay tuned

First and foremost, welcome to the site!

Second, that is a clean VZ you got there, looks like that will be another one resurrected.

Now that that's out of the way....

DUDE YOUR AVATAR ROCKS!

What year is your Delorean? :w00t:

And what is the car next to it?

Yeah they are both my cars, the D is a June build 1981 DeLorean with black interior and 5 speed manual, the other car is a 1976 XB Falcon hardtop like the car used in Mad Max

Those cars have to have they're own spot light shined upon them! Let them live!! Especially that Falcon!

Whilst tackling this baby I've also just started on a VZ-3000 HiFi...

I do like the VZ-2000 quite a bit more I have decided (soo much less to go wrong)

I still need to tackle the cassette deck on the 2000 as it currently sounds like it's being muffled through somebody's armpit.

I have bought a demagnetizer and had a crack at trying it out... it made some difference but nothing to write home about, I have also tried adjusting the position of the tape head but access is very limited unless I pull the unit completely apart (would REALLY like to avoid that option if possible)

any other possible suggestions?

That's a great VZ and cars package. Would be the envy of many i'm sure.

Your VZ looks great. I paid $200 for mine a few weeks ago and it is nowhere near as good cosmetically as your one.

In regard to the tape deck, i'm having roughly the same issue. I'm currently waiting for a new set of belts, so when they arrive i'm going to crack the VZ open again and try and resurrect the tape deck. I'm hoping a thorough clean and new belts will do the trick. I haven't thought of demagnetizing it. How do you go about doing that?

Your pictures of the remnants of the turntable belt bought back some bad memories for me! It's gotta be the one thing you can be sure of when you buy a VZ.
If i have any luck with my tape deck before you get around to fixing yours i'll let you know what did or didn't appear to help.

Best of luck!

Cheers

Hey! Nice work! I'm yet another aussie getting onto the VZ bandwagon - mine in nowhere near the sweet cosmetic condition yours in in.
I'll post some pix when I have something to show for myself.

Good luck with the sliders and the tape deck!
