Hey all,
Anyone who has owned a SONY CFS-88S knows it is a HUGE beast with 8" woofers, great GIANT VU meters, a really good tuner & exceptional finish overall. The speakers detach & are connected through it's hinged brackets to the amp when hooked to the main unit or you can use the speaker wires & spread them out away from the main unit.
The only real drawbacks to the blaster are it's weak Hitachi HAF1392 amp, extremely stiff woofers & overbright tweeters. This gave the unit a very bright mid-range & high end while mid-bass & warmth were non-existent. I installed some modern woofers & tweeters to improve the sound but the modern woofers I installed were 8 OHM & only pulling out about 3-4 watts @ absolute maximum output.
The sound was much more balanced & warm but bass response was still a bit weak due to the lack of power.
So, since I know these chips can handle 2 OHM loads, as proven over & over with the Sharp 777Z, I decided to try my luck with 8" 2 OHM speakers to see if I can wring out a few more watts from this sexy beast..searching, searching & searching, I finally got some Sanyo MX-920 Woofers from Nikon Foo that were 2 OHM, 20 watt rated to try....
Stay tuned, pics coming soon....
