Hi everyone-I just got my first GF-9797 for cheap!(46.00!)
It totally works-tape deck and amss & everything.
Special lights on this one to!
All digital tuner and draws 40 watts!
This thing rocks & sounds excellent for this size of box.
It's like it's in a 8989 size box but about 2 times the power!
Love the tuner-real strong-got 830 wcco am mpls/mn. last night!! (over 800 miles way!)
The tape deck was real dirty but is cleaning up nicely.
The right side is slightly quieter on tape deck but still sounds good-just needs some de-oxit and some internal cleaning.
I have it all working & on batteries to!
Just needs an antenna-like to get an original one if possible!-still have about 75% of the original.
Have a great weekend-GB. :-) :surf:

Looks like you made a good score.
I like the looks of the 9797, your right it looks very similar to the 8989 only it looks more expensive.

Mine disappeared somewhere between NY and CA. :sadno:

This is the one where I received an empty box.

Wish I had the chance to experience it. I know it's not popular with a lot of guys but I like digital tuners.

Congratulations! That's a good looking box and whatnot, but you'd think that the higher the model number, the more that the game is stepped up! Looks to me like they took it down a couple notches with 1 antenna and 1 LED meter array (combined left and right?). :-/ Sorry, if I had to choose between the 9797 and the 9696, I'm going with the 9696. PERIOD. ;-)

Well, while I'm initially inclined to agree with you... But, also realize that the 9797 came after the 9696, and at a time when things seemed to be shifting towards digital tuners and more refined technology. The look went away from the brawn~ish style of the 9494 / 9696 to a moree distinguished design with this box. So, while they share the GF-9x9x badge and are both one piece units, I think the comparisons pretty much end there.

Side by side and listening to them, my 9191 had more bass and a better overall balanced sound than my 9696 does. The 9696 goes louder, but it throws midrange at you hardcore. Honestly, I'm disappointed by the sound of my 9696, but I love its look, and the fact that it has a pitch control!!!

I'd be curious to hear how the 9797 compares to the 9696 and the 9191/9292 sound-wise. Looks wise, they are very different, too.

From what I've heard around the boards, the absolute best sounding GF-9x9x box is actually the GF-9595.

All that aside, that's a great score, Jeff! Congrats!

Beautiful box - I always assumed it was an 8989 with a digital tuner, but the 40w consumption and reports from people of better sound (than the 8989) would suggest otherwise. Another one I'd really like to add to the collection at some point. :surf:

Hi JT-Having a 9191,9595,9797,8989II,& others the 9191 has a little more bass but the tweeters are better in the 9797.
More balanced sound in the 9797 I think.
My 9595 is still in need of a new transformer and a blown circuit.
I've never know how good the 9595 is-still need to get my 9595 fixed and need another also!
I love these Sharp digitals!
The 9191 is 35 watts I believe & the 9797 is 40 watts but the woofers are more bassy in the 9191.
I still want the 9696!! & of course a 9292! Eventually all from 8989-9999!
I do have the 8989II,9191X,9595H,9797 so far! I love the 9696,9494,9292-these are needed boomers!
Have a great weekend-Jeff. :-)

:agree:

But I'd choose the 9797 because of digital tuner

Very nice 9797 you got there. GF 9797 and GF 9000 antennas are the same if it helps.
Maybe someone has a parts box lyin' around.
