I bought this radio as a parts box two years ago - for 15 Euros if I remember correctly.
My hope was, that I can repair it but when it arrived I realized, that too much was wrong with this radio.
Lots of cables inside were cut, belts and antenna were missing and one poti (treble) was completely broken.
Also there were two big glue spots on the top of the radio. Seems like a previous owner glued something to the top of the blaster. Fake antennas maybe - I don´t know.

However, the Phillips was sitting at my shelf all the time and I never bought another one when I realised how much they cost in good condition.
So finally I decided to repaint it and put a graffiti on. If its not working at least it can look good, right?
That was the birth of the ReggaeBlaster!
:weed: :-) :-D

Thanks guys - I´m glad you like it.

When you decided that you dont care about the usability of the boombox (cover the tuner glass and all lettering), its pretty easy to do this to a working boombox.
I just stripped it completly from all parts inside. Then painted the case green.
I used airbrush masking foil to get the white area for the graffiti background. Thats because its easier to have a white background for bright colors.
And finally I did all the painting with markers.
I use "Molotow" markers http://www.molotow.com/ because they sell matching markers, paint and spraycans. Its the most popular spraypaint for graffiti artists here.
Took me one weekend overall. :)

I dont know about the smoking option but monchito is right. The Phillips got potential for a tech mod.
I thought just a new amp and speakers and that I use the connectors on the side to hook up an mp3...
Hmm, need to think about it.

That is one dope colorway! :-D

It reminds of some of Futura's and Neckface's projects with MHI:

According to Lyle's book, Futura did some amazing painted boxes for The Clash and others! Those are serious mega-grails! If I could own one of those...

Go!
