Alright, I know a lot of you guys hate the style on the Kaboom series. I, on the other hand, think the style is A.O.K. That's the main reason I bought one back in '98. The bass was the icing on the cake - some damn good icing.
For a couple of years I've been looking specifically for the original RV-B90GY to replace the one I left behind back in '99. I just didn't want to pay $200-$300 for one in good condition. It's not a matter of priciple, but rather a matter of poverty.
One of the first things I bought when I graduated high school was the RV-B90. I had to have it - couldn't live without it. I moved to Orlando, FL two months after graduation and met a girl. We moved in together and things turned sour shortly after (very cliche). I ended up getting my own place and moved out in the middle of a weekday, while the b!+ch was at work. I moved out in such a hurry that I completely forgot my prized Kaboom. There was no way of getting it back without going to jail, so I accepted the fact that it was gone.
Fast-forward 15 years, and I come across this CL ad for a B90 for a very fair price. Of course I bought it! It was pretty rough, but it was all there. The deck was dead and the door was stuck, typical gooey rubber parts. Nothing anyone here hasn't heard of.
I stripped the goo and painted all the formerly gooey parts flat black, serviced the deck, removed all the stickers, pounded out the dented grills, sewed (yes, I sewed) the shoulder pad back together, and gave it a good detail.
It just needs a new encoder for the bass volume, which I'm sure I'll deal with in the next several days. Notice I didn't strip or paint the bass volume knob. It was hastily glued together by the previous owner, so the d-shaft is kind of a mess. I will post another pic (to the dismay of many) when I address it.
'Nuff talk...

I'll call it another personal grail scored.
