Last night I had some time to open up my newest addition to the family, this little 3 piece Panasonic SG J800 turntable boombox. I had to do one minor repair and some minor clean up. Upon arrival, the small tab that keeps the turntable locked in the closed position had broken off and was rattling inside the main unit. After a little jiggle and shake action, I found the small plastic piece that I was looking for. This exact same thing happened to my other little Panasonic I bought a few months back, and I fixed it the same way. I used some clear Gorilla glue, set the piece back in place and let it set while I took the speakers apart and gave everything a good bath. It was actually pretty clean overall. Not too bad. I cleaned the heads on the cassette deck as well and put everything back together. It was a quickie. So this morning I tested the turntable lock and its all good! Works like a charm. :-) EVERYTHING is fully functional and actually sounds quite nice. No scratchy sliders at all on this one. Here's some pics of the finished product and the vinyl LP that the seller threw in for free. I love these little turntable boxes... CHEERS!

Nice box! Looks it beautiful condition. I reckon boxes that don't need switch cleaner probably have had an easy life with minimal wear to the sliders. I had a Sharp GF-9292 that didn't need switch cleaner despite it never being serviced since new.

How do these Panny LP boxes sound?

James... :-)

Hey thanks Jimmy  This one had very minimal dust inside and out. It seems to have had a good life. This one actually sounds pretty nice on all functions. The woofers are so darn cute and tiny, but it actually sounds good. I had the Panasonic SG J500 model (which I gave to my daughter for Christmas) and this one sounds a lot nicer than that version. Its no M90  But all in all, its a good, crisp sounding, neat little package :-D

 Looks really good! Is that small thing in picture 4 a centre so that you can play dinked singles? Neat touch if so, especially for a cheapskate like me who buys many of his records in ex-jukebox condition.

That's a clean looking box. People are so used to seeing boomboxes that only play tapes, that when they see this one you're gonna make a lot of heads turn. Great score! 👍

Yea John thats the RPM adapter to play 45's. It slides into that little slot and locks into place for storage ;-)

How does it sound compared to your JVC DC33?
i alway thought boy buying one of these.
Thanks Scott! The JVC wreaks of that good ol JVC quality, therefore the DC33 is louder, and the build quality of the JVC makes it heavier. But the little Panny does sound really good, I cant really say anything bad about it. Probably because I find the good in all my radios no matter what
