I got my Pioneer CK-11 speakers back!!
This project actually started last year when I got a mind-blowing deal on a CK-11 on eBay. As with most CK units, the foams were practically non-existent. The refoaming "process" actually started in January of 2013, but because life happens, the speakers were not officially sent away until August. Fast forward to yesterday when the speakers finally came home!
They are absolutely stunning in person! I was told they would be even better than when they left the factory years ago. That was no lie.
The replacement foam for the woofer is impossible to find. Luckily, I know a guy who manufactures seamless surrounds using a professionally made mold.
I was his initial test for the process. The center surrounds can still be purchased at various places though.
Now, here comes the big mess. I hadn't opened the CK since I bought it. Damn! This thing needs some love.
Started cleaning...
I did a quick sound test even though the unit is still not complete (there are some issues with the radio). OMFG!!! I burst into hysterical laughter when I heard that low, rumbling, punch-you-in-the-gut bass.
Looks like I might be selling my M90 sooner than later.
Oh, and anybody who has ever heard the Pioneer ribbon tweeters know they are almost better than a good woman.
I'll try to get a video up later of the dancing woofers.
