Hello guys,

after some years, finally I've got an Uher mini-port:

I knew about it thanks to HiFi-Tom from Germany (regards if you are reading this!). It's a very hard to find ghettoblaster, and the Uher mini-port (and not other copies of this boombox) has very good drivers! I love it!

Telefunken HiFi Studio 1 has more powerful sound (my new second best sound  ):

but that Uher is superb!!!

Better than the Hifi Studio :hmmm:
Gotta hear that one in action!
Also, in Dessau I had my Hifi Studio tested against a little ripped Rotel, the Hifi Studio won the bass limbo by far. The Rotel was great nonetheless, but I am sorry to say, the Hifi Studio beat it.
Fun fact: The Hifi Studio started glowing after some hours, not visually but you could've roasted eggs on the metal surface.
Another thing I wanna mention: The Hifi Studio isn't good on batteries. It just won't show what it's capable of. Plug its power cord in and you'll be blown away. Bass deeper than Deepthought. Makes you wish it would pull that of on batteries. Could weigh less, too

Well, back o topic, I'm sceptical about the Uher sounding better but I'll keep an eye on that model for sure, to verify or falsify.

P.S.: No, the Hifi Studio is not all about bass, its allaround sound is the sh*at. :-P

I'm looking for that Rotel since my first contact with boomboxes and Tom ... Mega-hard-to-find too :-/

About the sound in the Uher, well, HiFi Studio sounds deep and very very good, but the Uher is more subtle (with less bass). Sound is always subjective, but in any case is a safe bet!

Very nice! And I see you have a Grundig Party Center 2000 as well! How does that compare?

Hi Reli!

Good sight  Grundig Party Center 2000 sounds very good too, but Uher mini-port is a bit ahead. Better highs, a cleaner bass, more powerful ... The Grundig only wins in the radio section, the reception is the best I heard in a boombox. Both are fantastic pieces of boombox history.

Best regards.

Hello

Shure, there is no better radio section than the Grundig PC 2000 hifi (take a look at Grundigs Satellit models, world best tuners!), but the Grundig is warm sounding mashine without extrems - good highs, good middle, good bass with a little subbass, all you need. It's an all day player ...

The Telefunken is also my favorite boombox - what a sound! Shure not good on batteries, but the PC 2000 hifi also just pushes 2 x 5 Watts on batteries (normal 2 x 25 Watts). The HS makes me wondering how such deep bass can be realised with a small speaker - the bad thing about it, when you turn up the volume the bass-speakers can't handle the power any more ...

The Rotel is a great bbox - ahead with the Telefunken. Not as spectacular as the HS but with a great all around sound - very clear and strong. Shure, it's very hard to find (I exchanged my second Rotel against a JVC M90) and if you find one, for shure not cheap to get.

The Uher is also one of my favorites. BUT, you need to know that those units where built with 2 different type of speakers. I also own such a very rare silver unit, and here the bass speakers are smaller and not white colored. The white bass-speakers you wil find in some of the brown colored units are bigger, but not better. The smaller black bass speaker examples got much more punsh than the big white once (some time ago I shown photos here where you could see the differents - but I can't remember the topic-name ...) ...

A very nice collection - just the best of the best (sounding) units. Great!
Hope you will find a Rotel one day ...

Best wishes
TOM

Hi Tom, are these the better ones? (BTW, isn't my picture, is yours :-D )
I don't know which are the ones in my unit at this moment ...
