Hi everyone-I finally got a JVC RC-M50JW and man do I love this boombox!
The only thing going on with this is that the antenna was busted out when I bought it.
I need a new antenna but more likely eventually a back cover.
It is slightly slow on tape speed and it got a little better after a cleaning but still have not taken the back circuit board off to get at all the belts and pulleys.
It squeeks a little(the motor)-how do you oil one of these and with what kind of oil?
I don't want to do anything to worsen it but I can get at the motor I believe but If I take photos of the inside tonight hopefully someone will help me in getting to all the belts by getting the circuit board off of the back-looks like a bit of work. :hmmm:
Everything else works and does his thing sound good!!
I love that it has the electronic echo and the bi-phonic switch!!
Very cool!
With a litle work this will be beautiful.
I'm still going to get another one because I like this model so much.
I have it on top of my M-90!
Looks good there!
So anyone who has an antenna for one of these or a back-let me know.
I just love the fact also that this is a 5 band!
3 short-waves.
Here's some photos-enjoy!
Have a super week-GB. :-) :surf:  :choco: :breakdance:

Way to go, Jeff! Patience finally paid off for you. Are the woofers still blue or have they faded a little? It's difficult to determine in those pics.

Yes Bobby-They're blue and it's all original.
I'm going to take the back off and take some photos of the insides tomorrow.
Yes thanks to Ira for finding this for me I have another special box. :surf:  :-P
Now just for the M-60 and the M-80.Later though!!
I have to get a power window motor so no boomers for the rest of this month!
Thanks Bobby-I appreciate your input and compliments-You really want to get one of these!
I had it up to about 7.5 on the volume and the echo on full w/bi-phonic on with a 1982 R&B tape and it was just wonderful-very nice sound!!
Thanks much-GB. :-) :-D  :surf: :breakdance: :choco:

and i think you can survive a decade or two --
w/o a new back :-) :-)

Thanks Ira-You are a really really kind person!
I've found some really nice boxes that I've wanted and was looking for and you helped me!!
Thank-You,Thank-You,Thank-You!!!
This is really a special boombox!!
I can't wait to get the tape cleaned more and lube the motor.
The tape speed is about 90-95% speed.
I hear the motor squeek a little at times.
Have a super evening-GB. :-) :surf: :choco: :breakdance: :ninja:

yours is pretty cherry. mines definately in the top three favorites of mine.
i have no complaints about the sound of mine. its not a bass monster but it is a very good radio and has very good sound.

Congrats ,Looking good!!
But why is it 80 percent of the M-50's i see have a broken base where the antenna goes into the body??
Must have been a design flaw.
Lets see some pics with big brother!!! :morepics:

This seems to be a bit of a weak point on some JVC's, even the M70 has a weak and easily broken antenna mount.

Hi everybody-I can still put an antenna w/shaft in there,it still has the brass retainer in there and I could make a small plastic weld of some kind or just give it a little something to keep it in there.
I just found my new camping boombox!
I will be taking photos tomorrow of the inside and I'll take photos of the big brother to!
Thanks-GB. :-)

Congratulations Jeff! I really like the M50, it's a little bit M70 and a little bit M90, but has it's own little personality two, especially with the prominent Biphonic feature.

Looks like a lovely specimen too! Good to see her find a good home.

Rock On.

does it bother any of you m50 owners --
that jvc forgot --the balance control ?? :dunce: :-O

to me --its dumb and dumbfounding---- :hmmm:

------------still is a beautiful box with real nice sound --
and a MUST for jvc collectors :-) :-)

I never really use a balance control except for comparing speaker output when I first get a box.The M50 is a gorgeous box! "babya" brings up an interesting question. You just don't see the 50 on Ebay nearly as much as the 70.The 50 was obviously more affordable as it was lower than the 70 in the product line.It seem to me they would have sold more of them for that reason alone. So why do you not see more of them for sale? It would be nice if there were records of production figures still out there.

Ghettoboom767 Can't wait to see the back of your m50 as I would like to know if there is a way to adjust the motor as mines is a bit slow as well, Does the motor has a screw to adjust the speed? :-D

balance control always seemed a little useless to me.
To tell you the truth I wish the M - 70 only had one volume slider. :-/

That's one feature I like about the Sharp GF-9090, it has one slider for volume and one for balance.
