I managed to get a near mint 838 with only a couple of small dings in the trim of the control panel. The rest of the cabinet was perfect. Even the back badges were still shiny enough to see my reflection. Left channel gone....Bass & Treble don't work in Stereo, meaning the right channel for the EQ controls were shot too....bummer...
A few weeks go by & I managed to wrangle a fully working beater 838 with a smooth running deck & fully operational, just the left channel is a bit stronger & the sliders were very stiff, needs a proper cleaning but everything else operates flawlessly & the sound is good & balanced so Bass, Treble, Volume & Balance are all working correctly, as well as all switches & functions including Record....
SO I took the working chassis & installed it into the minty cabinet, with a hitch or 2 to sort out & added the Battra DISCO mod for some flavor. It's stealth so you only know its there when the LEDs are on...otherwise it looks completely original except the corner of the tuning window shows the remote eye & the adjuster knob on the side In/Out panel for the music sensitivity adjustment.
Stay Tuned.......
