Hey everybody, I know this is no FULL RESTO, but I'm happy to announce my new addition to the collection, THE JVC M90! :-) I found this on Craigslist just moments after it was posted and I wasted no time calling that number. I was the 1st person to call on it and I made arrangements to meet up with the seller ASAP. The next morning my son and I took an hour drive Westbound and it came home with me :-) He was asking $700, I brought it home for $600. The only thing non operable is the tape deck, but I must say, this is my BEST sounding boombox hands down. The hype is all true. I had never seen or heard one until I saw this one. These sound GREAT! The VU's work, line in works, thanks to some advice from Cpl Chronic (Thanks Cpl) FM sounds great, but this guy was ****IN FILLLLTHY. So I gave it the cleaning it deserved and gave all the contacts and knobs a shot of Deoxit, here it is, Happy Again. Enjoy everybody!

NICE SCORE SLO!!!

Even with the deck needing work it is in amazing shape, especially the tuner window & top trim. I bet you could flip it for about 12-1500, come tax time, if you had to but I know you'll enjoy it for years to come. Welcome to the Mighty-90 club & yes, I agree the 90 is second to none, in so many ways, it's just sick how they just stomp on anything else. Even C-100's wish they sounded that good & still get so loud....It's just mind-boggling....

Cheers,
Cpl

It is the one to have, but I don't have ...sadly. Looking fine. It's great how the M90 came up with some TLC.

Glad to see you finally got one and for a good price. Now you see that these radios are the bomb.

Yours look pretty darn good all original antennas & trim look sharp. I would paint the grills to make that baby shine.

The speakers it's up to you but I would use fabric paint spray.

Congrats Slo and welcome to the Elite M-90 club.

Here's a pic I dug up of my M-90 with the grill and woofers painted. This pic. is from I believe the 1st. Sunshine meet in Florida.

Thanks ford, the trim is in excellent shape, only a few minors scratches that you cant see from the low quality pics but overall very good shape. I may paint the grills later on down the road, they could use a fresh coat of paint. It would really make it pop. The woofers I will probably leave alone unless I get brave, but the surrounds are in great shape with no signs of cracking so thats good news. I clicked on your link but the page showed a bunch of M90's, which one is yours ford? :hmmm:

I wouldn't paint the woofers myself if they are in good shape but if you do, DO NOT paint the suspension edges. I did that on a set & it made them stiff & they cracked up because the paint collected in the accordion edges & caused all kinds of issues.....They can be cleaned gently & are waterproof on the front side but the back side still has the paper surface exposed so don't dunk them or get the backside wet at all....

Cheers,
Cpl

I would paint the grills too only because they have the rust spots. Leave the rest alone it is PERFECT......

My virgin M90 will always be just that, a virgin. I will never pop the screws loose on this one:

I don't blame you for leaving yours alone Joe, it's cleeeeean. Mine was gross. I just can't enjoy a dirty boombox for some reason. I have to be visually stimulated as well. But im glad I opened this guy up because someone, who knows when already beat me to it, and had a brown speaker wire connected to one of the woofers for an external speaker. It was just dangling in the radio for years.

So I removed it and trashed it. Plus I discovered that I'm missing 1 of the shorter screws that hold the back in place, and 2 of the longer 2 inch screws as well. I hope to find some OG ones somewhere somehow, or I will just go to the hardware store and find the next best thing :-)

Sorry Slo for not responding sooner been busy with work and my mom that suffers from Dementia.

On the picture I have my right hand on the top of the radio and my left hand on the volume knob and I'am wearing a gray on gray watch. I painted mine and there are no issues with the sound quality due to the paint is specifically made for fabrics it's not an enamel so it's very light when applied.

Thanks Slo.

Yeah if you ever need that info on the paint I know Ira has the can I gave him I hope he still has it.

Further researching it is Dupli-Color Vinyl & Fabric spray paint. Now hopefully Ira still has the can that will say the the exact color or the paint code number. I wish i had kept that info. for myself but wanted for Ira to have it and fogot to write it down. I also applied two coats of clear after the blue to give that original look that the M-90 woofers has. Hope this helps if you ever decide.
