Heyya, all :breakdance:

Was toying with my GF-8989-Z/II & managed to get the head to track right & the Flywheel belt is holding its own, so I am enjoying some sweet beasties on tape. Unfortunately when engaging the record button, I only get playback as if the audio circuit is not switching to record.

I have to find the electric switch that is engaged with the record button to flip the function of the head over to record, right?

Any ideas??

Make sure the lever that pushes/pulls record long switch bar usually located behind deck on board is lining up to switch... Switch is usually about 3" long and may need cleaning also. Good luck ;-)

Note: It is very easy to break the end (Exposed Switch Tip with a hole is ~5mm long hard plastic- this end is easy to break off) of the record switch if someone replaced the belt and was not careful putting it back. Check the lever mechanism works or not when you depress the record button-press and hold the tab lever) This switch needs good cleaning like Bill mentioned.

   Well, I learned something today. Don't tear apart a deck if you don't know hwat you're doing.

now i need a funciotoning deck for the boomer. Might sell as is cheap if someone else wants to rebuild. I gave up when tiny ball bearing flew everywhere & bounced around on the floor.
