Heyya, =)

I just got my GF-8787 & found out it is really a GF-8989-II in an 8787 case, which is OK with me as the 8989 is a better machine with BASS & TREBLE instead of TONE & BALANCE. Since it is not a perfect specimen for collecting, it is another candidate for modding & pimping. The speakers are in great shape & go really, REALLY LOUD!!! As well, the sound is qutie good for a basic 2-way with peizo tweeter horns. I decided to give it the RGB treatment. Here's a couple of photos to tease you guys with until I get a video up later tonight. It is still a work in progress but here ya go:

:-D :-D Thanx guys for the encouragement. :-D :-D

Of course, I'm still refining it a bit but it'll soon be done & I'll post a video of it with my crappy kodak soon. I can't believe how LOUD this MOFO can go & still be pretty clean sounding too. The woofers are 3.2 ohm, like the JVC M70's. They don't have bass like my custom triple-7-Z but they do sound very nice indeed.

Here's a shot looking up from the tape carriage to the top of the tape compartment & directly into the LEDS:

As you can see I'm waiting for the epoxy to dry before re-assembly. :breakdance: :afro:

I worked out the optimal placement & then cemented the strip in place after wiring the fan connector to the strip. Once it's all dry, the wire connectors all snap together for the light strips, the sensitivity knob & the remote sensor. It takes 30 seconds to wire it all back together so I can reassemble the box & make sure no wires are out of place before I screw it together.

Light diffusing films will make it even look better!

We can avoid those bright spots of the LED.

It will cut down the light transmission ~40% and makes it look evenly distributed.

Here is an example.

3Mâ„¢ Diffuser Film 3635-70

A cast, matte, white translucent film. Suitable for second surface of clear or translucent acrylic or as an underlaminate for 3Mâ„¢ Scotchcalâ„¢ Translucent Films. This film allows 60 percent light transmission

Any translucent film or tube should work well when it is placed above the LED strip, giving some clearance. Just try a few and see how it goes.

Actually, I like the way the LED's beaming effect dance to the music so I'll keep it as is. It really stands out in person & the video doesn't do it jsutice but you get the idea & it looks so sweet.  :breakdance:

Okay!  I thought that LED beam was something out of control.

That's cool... Maybe the tuner dial could use that 3M film for more even lighting on the dial. It doesn't have to be vivd to work well for reading the tuner scale.

As for the cassette compartment, I want to keep it as is. When playing music, the beams dance around, if you watch the video closely. Plus, they give a kind of mini Disco Lite effect, kind of like tiny stage lights, flashing & changing colors. I don't want to waste 40% of the luminosity as the vividness & depth of color is stunning as is. Myu camera is so grainy & slow compared to the real thing.

Well, I added some CONION style RGB LEDS to the face of my GF-8989 II. I'm almost finished & want to try another final idea to finish it off make it more Pimp-BLING!!! Stay tuned for more details on 'Chronic-Blaster'....

Here's a video to show it off so far, less than 5 min. I have a cold so you can hear my breathing in the beginning. sorry about that :'-( .:
:afro: SHE'S CRAFTY :breakdance:

I might improve the tweeters. I don't think they are working right. They don't have CAPS either which makes the piezos sound worse, no?
