My first Toshiba!...Toshiba RT-8860S

For some reason I'd not yet managed to bag a Toshiba since I started this mad collecting so when I saw this one I knew I had to have it. Seems to be pretty uncommon by all accounts and is a beauty. This was really grimy inside and out and the deck didn't work as well as the usual dodgy switches. So I spent 5 hours this aft scrubbing the feck out of it as well as cleaning the switches and rebelting the deck. Now all working I including the deck and the proper line-in. Got 3 way speakers so sounds great...hope you like!

Very nice Tosh Si, I have had 4 toshiba boxes including the bombeat wx1. Gotta say I love Toshiba as a brand, very well made and nice sound, not to mention pretty rare. Can I ask are the rotary controls a bit flimsy and kind of slack? I only ask because they look exactly the same as the ones on the 9510 I had and they were not so good.

Yeah I had one of those, the sound on "Wide" was intergalactic!!
Cheap-feeling knobs though, no resistance at all.

Thanks fellas...the black and chrome do look good together. The controls are smooth, not masses of resistance, but not slack either. Great highs and mids on this thing

It was super easy to work on...the front comes off leaving everything including the speakers on the rear unit...unusual but it makes it a doddle to work on. One of the easiest rebelts I've ever done

Yeh it's a great design for easy maintenance, everything is easy to get to, even the deck just took 4 screws to release and comes away easily to get to the back of it. Two more little screws to get to the belt and job done.

I'm sitting looking at it now...it sure is pretty

i also have one and it's one of my favs as toshiba made the best boxes
my one has the 3 way speaker badges on the grills.....they are the same badges that are on the bombeat 40 and they also share the same cassette keys

I have this one too, but I don't know, mine doesn't sound anywhere near as good as my other tosh, the 9990. actually I'll put it way down in the bottom with the captain in my collection if anything, which is not bad, but its got nothing on aiwa 770, sharp 9696, crown 850 etc. Am I doing it wrong lol ? But it does look darn good.
