Some of my goals for 2009 were to:

1) Find a Helix HX-4635 (or variant)
2) Get banned from S2G by PF
3) Meet SkillPhil
4) Buy a jammin' sucker MC box from SkillPhil

Doggone if I didn't accomplish every single one of those!!

Right before Christmas, Skill put up a really sharp looking GE 3-5295A on eBay with a BIN or Best Offer. I shot him my best offer and he accepted! It just arrived today, but I'm at work right now and the computer here doesn't have SD card slots. So, pics will have to wait until tomorrow.

However...

Here's one of the pics from the listing (the box I have is on the top):

Notice that it's slightly wider than the Blockbuster. I think I'll call this one the Blockbuster MKII. :-D

Cool boombox Bobby. A Sharp GF-9797 in OEM GE form. At least you got yours. I got an empty box and a bunch of grief.

From SkillPhil?!? :-O

No Bobby. From James in NY. I bought one exactly like yours but when it arrived, it was an empty box. I posted about the whole thing about 6 months ago. USPS paid but I didn't get all my money back since the seller charged more than actual shipping. USPS pays actual item cost plust actual shipping only. The difference was what I lost out on but wasn't worth any more agony on my part.

Hey, that's true! :w00t:

I finally got around to opening the shipping box. Even the shipping box had a carry handle!

This thing is mintier than how it looked in the eBay pics. :w00t: Controls are staticky, but that's an easy fix. Radio works. Cassette works. 100% complete. :surf:  :breakdance: Right now, I'm listening to the included sucker MC rap tape that Skill put in the box. :afro:

I don't recall seeing this model before, is it on the rare side? :hmmm:
I'm not sure, Don. I know I was drawn to it based on looks. I don't recall seeing one before. I plan on giving it a good workout tomorrow.

Nice pickup, Bobby!

Is that really the same as a Sharp GF-9797? Please bring it to the meet! Would like to compare to GF-9696!

I'm not sure if it's the same as the GF-9797. I guess it sort of looks like one (based on my memory of the 9797). It will definitely be at the meet!!

Nice one Bobby. I had that same GE,I got it from Erniejade. I had mine apart to replace the cassette belt, and it IS definatly a Sharp GF9797. The PC boards even have "Sharp" printed on them. GE did nothing to hide the fact that this is a Sharp in drag as a GE. Very nice unit for sure.  That was GE's top unit back in the day $429.00 retail,WOW!!!!! :-O

Sweet pickup ! I've always been a G.E. Guy myself. Unfortunately,I haven't been looking recently or I would have snagged it.With Skil I don't have to have it shipped.Oh well,Im glad it went to a top notch collector to be forever preserved!
I have to wonder how it would compare to a Blockbuster for bass. The buster has more robust surrounds if I am seeing things correctly.Though it seems odd,I suppose the 5295 could have less bass and still be upmarket from the 5259.Digital tuners were a big deal back then.

Jovie, I plan on giving it a full workout tomorrow. I finally cleared off some space on the kitchen table so I can work on getting the static out of the controls.
