Ebay find - super low price and I was the only bidder !!!!

The auction description said this thing had never been used before, and from the looks/smell/sound of it, they were not lying! This must have sat unused since 1992!

I will pull this out of the box every so often to run it through it's paces and keep it working. And if my son ever shows interest he may get this someday. I love the fact that part of the rear is transparent so you can see some of the working parts doing their thing.

Truth be told, seeing that it's 18 years old I did not really expect it to work (old belts and all). Not only does it work perfectly, but it sounds quite outstanding! Especially for something intended as a children's entry to sound electronics!!!! No joke, the sound quality blew me away! This is a very clean sounding walkman, better than my sports walkman and the various mid-line walkmans I also own! Only my WM-D3 sounds better, but that one has the classic clacking-sound issue going on so I don't use it at all. I guess sometimes less really can be more! This deck does not generate any noticeable circuit hiss on its own, and can make a nicely recorded CrO2 tape sound truly splendid. Admittedly, I was listening to it using my Grado SR-80's which can make many lesser devices sound like more than they are, but with my WM-D3 making those nasty clacking noises again and sometimes not playing at all...., it is difficult for me to leave this in its box and avoid using it...

So, without further ado, here is the NEW Sony!

Everything inside was still in the original plastic. Seemingly untouched!

Oh, and a special thanks goes out to our very own Gluecifer for the hook-up on the very cool Walkman tape!!!! This unit and that tape look great together, don't ya think? (more to come on how I got the tape in a separate thread soon to follow)

And here is that window where you can see it go to work....
