Hey all. So I bought a little 4920 about a month ago for $9, as what I felt would be a perfect box to test and learn some skills on, by installing an aux 3.5mm jack on.

This is my first mod I've ever done, besides the SuperDuper led kit on my M70.

But this I successfully did without asking any questions, only what I know. And info I read on this site, (which helped guide me a lot).

Turned out great I think. Let me know your opinions, even if anyone feels I shoulda left it.

The hardest part was tracking down where the signals go from the tuner to the amp. I couldn't find it from the tuner side, so I went the long way. From the speakers, through the amp, then the tone/volume pots, the to the power switch. That took me about an hour. After that, it was pretty much wham, bam, thank you ma'am! The jack I used is a 3.5mm stereo switched jack for pcb's.

I did have to cut the left and right signal traces for the switched jack. This box is all one board, so the only wires are pretty much power wires and speaker wires. But the cut is razer thin, so easily repaired if needed.

I still can't figure out why some of my pics turn sideways sometimes...

But how it works, as some of you probably know, when the radio is turn on the tuner, (AM or FM in my case), it works normally on the radio. But when I plug in a aux line, the tuner signals get cut off, and the aux (ipod, phone, etc.) Signals get introduced. It seems to be working great, no signal loss, crystal clear.

I was going to say the same thing, proud of you man. These boxes are perfect to try your skills on and you make them an every day blaster by adding line-in.

Nice work.

Thanks guys. Yeah before I did it I wanted to make sure this little guy wasn't some special box... I couldn't really find anything, so I figured, it's either super extremely rare, or just so plain Jane nobody cares much.

Based on how basic it is, I went with plain Jane. Pretty easy assumption.

Hey man....its your box...do whatever the f you want! Excellent work!
Since you're practicing...why not put a bunch of blinkies on it...Cpl style!
Looks like the perfect box for that.

I don't know if I'm THAT ready. Maybe though, the box I'm thinking will be for my little niece who loves playing with my other boxes.

Great work...I'd do this on a few boxes if my electronic skills were sufficient to track the path. Nice one :-)

Nicely done trippy, a very clean little mod. Before you know it you'll be back in a box doing some more stuff, maybe even the same one

You know... it really wasn't. Like I mentioned, the hardest part, for me anyways, was tracing which circuit traces to tap into. I'd bet if it was a box that has wires from tuner board to amp board, it's possibly even easier.

Go for it!!! Just check a few time to male sure you go the right ones. I checked like 10. Haha.
