So I've been desperate to pick up something good from a car boot sale but just never managed to find anything but modern crap! Well my luck changed yesterday and I spotted a box sat on top of a traders van playing radio. Asked him how much and he said it wasn't for sale! :(

So wandered round the rest of the sale and found nothing so decided to go back and try and persuade him. Told the bloke how I was mad on boxes and eventually persuaded him to part with it. He didn't even take out the 8 Duracell Procells that were in it!

So here's my now fully serviced and working Sharp GF6363...not a grail but I don't care coz I found it in the wild!!!! Sounds way better than a 6060 I had before and I love the 8989 style grills :) I don't think I've ever seen a 6363 on eBay and haven't found much mention of it elsewhere so seems reasonably rare :)

More than I wanted to pay lol ;)

He'd bought it from the trader opposite the week before for a tenner so I had to give him £20 to persuade him to sell it. So it wasn't the bargain of the century but its certainly worth the dosh bearing in mind it's condition and relative rarity. Happy with the deal :)

Looks good. If you should decide to part with this Sharp, I'd gladly give you £20.07 for it. :-D
7p profit for the 3 hours I spent servicing and very thoroughly cleaning it inside and out?...tempting but I think I'll give it a miss ;) I am a bit obsessed with getting a box clean...every surface; front, back and inside needs to gleam!

Oh well, a fella has to ask.

So what's the sound quality like with this one then? Does it have that tuneful grasp of bass sounds that a 9090 has or does everything below 100Hz just merge into one sloppy lump, like a GF-555 with its factory speakers?

Is this one of those that were built in Japan or is it from later when they seemed to farm them out to Malaysia? I can't quite make out that tiny label from this device's screen.

Made in Japan :)

Sounds really good for a mid range box, nice mids and highs...and quite loud. Need to listen to it side by side with others to see how it compares with say the 9090...might do that tonight if I remember :) 28 watts it says on the back...the 9191 is about 35 and the 9494 is 40 I think from memory tho I might be completely wrong

Close enough, consumption stated at 24 Watts:

The output of a 9090 is under 4 Watts per channel (RMS) and it plays into speakers that provide 92db/W @ 1Metre so assuming that the new kid on the block is equally as efficient or more efficient than a 9090, it should be loud enough to get itself noticed yet capable of making its battery last a fair old while.

I'm on the edge of my seat awaiting your comparative test results! :w00t:

Ok beo I've done a side by side of the 28w 6363 and the 24w 9090 using an fm transmitter

Listened to on its own the 6363 sounds good but next to the 9090 it's so lacking in bass in comparison...the 9090 kicks its teeth in then nicks its wallet :)

It's still a nice low volume radio but no boomer so it's off to be my office radio instead of my Sanyo 7900

:-O

Awww, bumhats! So it uses an extra 4 Watts and the difference isn't noticeable in a good way. Must mean that it has either less efficient speakers, less output power to drive them or both. Shame, I love its looks.

Don't get me wrong it's a nice sounding box and for a mid to lower end machine is pretty darned good. Just doesn't have the bass of the 9090 but then the 9090 kicks some serious butt for such a small box. Hence the move to work where bass is a no no :)

I run a citizens advice bureau so booming bass isn't really conducive to good advice lol

"So you say the bailiffs are coming round to evict you later today?...oh hang on, I really love this tune!"...starts headbanging

 Try as I might, I cannot see the conflict there.

Nice boomer! And if you run a line in with all settings flat, you can get your bass via the MP3 player or other device providing the signal. :-)
