Yay! Exciting - I just bought my first actual boombox: [ebay]270727629625[/ebay] Would have preferred a 9191, but couldn't find one that was even halfway affordable, so I went for the slightly less stylish (but still beautiful) 9797. Looking forward to opening the box!! Hope it's gonna get here quick!
The seller says there aren't any major technical defects except for a scratching volume knob, and apparently when rewinding the tape the motor almost stops. I know that some of you own that box as well and I'm sure pretty much everyone here is a lot more tech-savvy than I am (never attempted fixing anything more complex than a pant button), so I thought that maybe you could give me some advice on how to solve those two minor (or so I hope) issues?
But for now: Hurry, Mr. Mailman! I'll post some pictures once my new favorite toy gets here.

Congratz on the GF 9797 . This bronze version seems to be very rare .
I own two GF 9797 's , a silver one and a bronze one . I absolutely love these. Collecting boomboxes started for me too with buying a GF 9797 (many years ago)
The one you won seems to be in near mint condition. I hope you get the defects fixed. I'm shure the tape deck will be fine again
after a belt replacement.
Anyway welcome to this nutthouse and enjoy this hobby. :hmmm:

Grrrrrreat starter box, cracking looks and decent sound - I'm sure you won't be disappointed. :surf:

This shares a majority of parts/design with the Sharp 8989, along with the known traits of noisy volume control and weak FF/Rew.

I believe this a worn rubber tyre/idler wheel issue more than belt related but 'either or' may apply.

:agree: with the previous sentiment. Welcome and looking forward to the pics!

Lucky you. I would love to go to Germany some time. I almost went last year but the event I was going to go to moved to another country instead.

Cool beans man but PLEASE make sure you fully seat those boxes on the table!

They will not drop that easy. And they only were like this for a half hour. Did not want to risk any damage , exept my ears maybe

Lookin' forward to your GF 9797 pics dschumbonn :surf:

Okay, things are getting kind of crazy over here... No news on the 9797 yet, I'm told it's on its way here, expecting it to arrive tomorrow. However: I already made my second bargain on Ebay the other day, and that one arrived in no time at all. So here it is, my (not quite) brand-new Sharp GF-8585 (Sorry for the bad image quality, taken w/ a cell phone camera in very bad lighting conditions):

It's in almost unbelievably perfect condition both optically and technically. Even the APLD function still works flawlessly. Sound-wise, I've got to admit, I'm the tiniest bit underwhelmed. I was expecting a little more of a well-rounded, warm sound and a little more punch in the volume department wouldn't hurt either. Anyway, I don't wanna complain, it's a beautiful machine and for its size, it certainly produces a hell of a lot of noise and I can't wait to take it out to the park once the summer really kicks in.
