I'm only five boxes in to my collection but this is the best yet in terms of looks and condition

A cardboard box full of boom

Can you tell what it is yet?

Hitachi TRK 8190E. In really nice condition with just a little rub through on the corners. It has a few issues, The tape door has a broken hinge, the timer switch is broken off, it doesn't play tapes and the radio produced only static until I turned the power of and on. Then I got lots of lovely FM goodness

Even the sticker is good

Congrats! Hitachi's early boxes (like this one) were better quality than JVC and Sharp in my opinion.

Beauty little machine. Always liked the looks of the hi end Hitachis. The builds look solid AF! I also like their 3-piece units. The real hi-end ones, not the cheapies, mind you...

These are bigger than they look and even heavier than they look.
One of my biggest regrets was selling my 8190 that bastard could rock and sounded ****ing awesome outside.

Looks good. I've got a parts 8800 that may have compatible bits if you need any
Cheers. The timer stand by button is the main thing I'm missing at the moment. But looking at 8800s online the timer switch seems to function as an on off switch too so maybe not compatible. There's a few bits rattling around inside the box so i might need some help there too

Very nice!
I have one! They were the early models that came with LED VU's. It looks nice and sounds decent too! Seems like it is not hard to work on them. I postponed to work on the cassette section.
Those two push pins that hold the cassette transparent cover comes out by pushing out (little tricky) from the back. Those two dot like depressions sometimes confuse us to use a tool to turn and remove it.

Radio reception is outstanding ...life like....no static.

Looks better than any jvc m70 and that door decal is very nice dude, congrats
Lol still on your anti-M70 crusade...some day I'm gonna bring a good one to you and prove they're worthy :-)

I didn't realise the Hitachis were that popular, until I joined BB. I had a Hitachi way back in the day. Like the guys have said, you're jumping in at a good level with a 8190. This one gives me good nostalgic vibes

Lovely pictures of the 8190. The early 1980s Hitachi I think were probably the company's best.

Very nice! A few months back I picked up a HITACHI TRK-8610W locally for $40, its super DIRTY, but it actually sounds really nice. My 1st HITACHI. I now have a new love for HITACHI's. Yours is a nice example, congrats!
