I've been trying to learn more about restoration by picking up cheap boxes and experimenting on them. Some successfully, thanks to these forums, and others not so much (in the bin).
I bought a Sony CFS W370S from ebay a while ago. It was sold as spares. 'NO POWER' was the issue.
When I got round to testing the box I tried batteries and it worked. Then, after I took the batteries out, I saw the voltage switch in the back was set to 110volts. I switched it over to 240volts and tried it. Nothing. The internal fuse had blown. I swapped it and SUCCESS.
'Another job, successfully completed, on time and within budget.'
