way back when, in my discussions of how much i despise cheap "toy robot" looking post-hip-hop (it was MY culture that gave YOU those tacky things!) boomboxes with their miles of chrome, and in the case of the lasonic, in particuluar, the most HIDEOUS, random even, color & font choices on top of the "was that really necessary?" "high fidelity" logos on each woofer. i'm an artist, and bad aesthetics hurt my eyes. you snowflakes really need to get over others having opinions you don't agree with.
right here, right now, i'm sharing MY CREATIONS, yet, feel free to criticize them if they hurt your eyes. i don't take that stuff personally, even when my own personal creativity is invested, unlike all of you who just buy and collect boomboxes... and weren't even "there in the day" b-boying like me. everyone is entitled to their OPINIONS for which there are never right or wrongs... those are called facts.
so go ahead... put your hater hats on and fee;l free to say how much you hate these designs. just don't talk about ME personally. then it's on. those are MY boundaries... much looser than many of yours.
anyways... here's the only full view pic i have of the lasonic i made around 1991. i WANTED a japanese "no frills" minimalist type box like the JVC "LL cool J" (M90 or something to that effect), but by then, corporate scum had weaponized hip-hop into the new crack, you couldn't buy singles anymore, and there was no reason for anyone to buy boxes anymore... except me as i REFUSE to surrender hip-hop... and by that i mean REAL positive "give it all you got" we're dancing to end gangs humanist hip-hop culture... not rap... which many mistake for the culture. BTW... STOP calling gangsta crap hip-hop! it's hip opposite! it violates the b-boy "thou shalt never TOUCH an opponent in battle"... the very thing that made it a great culture.
i digress... i bought the lasonic because it was the best sounding & deepest bass box i could fin and i liked that it had a full 12 band EQ. i just hated the way it looked and when i couldn't stand looking at the toy robot anymore, i tore it apart and repainted it as an hommage to malcom mc laren's duck rock album, which was always a favorite.
after the lasonic was stolen, i needed a replacement and found many of the top 10 grails, including a J-1 at an audio store, but couldn't get past the ugliness of everything... the fake gold plating on the crown, the fake RTA on the rexel (?) or that pointless fake bubblegum pink button, or the terrible red, yellow, green, white randomly spaced asymmetrical color combo on the 4 woofer disco box, of all the boxes in the shop, the J-1 looked best, but i couldn't wrap my head around paying $220 for a box with a crooked "they all have them" cassette door along with the poorly masked red trim around the woofers, the hastily etched grid pattern around the mid and fake tweeter, the ridiculous "super jumbo" logo or the pointless 3 way tweeter badges... nothing you'd see on a REAL hifi component or a japanese boombox for that matter.
when i decided i'd just duck rock that and went back... all of the boxes were gone. oh well.
i still say the JVC is what a boombox should look like, and with that in mind, i went back and got rid of as much of the tackiness that OFFENDS MY EYES (deal with it! i have to!), oh, like the mismatched cassette door colors & toy mirrored LEDs (something i always hated about my lasonic... REAL boomboxes use VU meters!
then i turned it into what the J-1 would look like if anyone asked my opinion. to me, it looks 10x better than any chinese box going back to a more monocrome businesslike color combo and adding "real" LED meters that could actually be used for monitoring levels, and making the clock, radio dial and speakers bigger.
go on... hate if you have to, but my gut tells me a lot of you would pay big bucks for THAT tecsonic
