Hi guys! Just picked up a lovely Panasonic RX5250 and spent the evenings giving it a good clean. Radio and line in sounds great  . Tape decks works tho rewind is a bit weak so I'll bung some new belts in.

Only problem is that when you press play you get no sound from the tape you just get a bassy blip through both speakers running at 2 or 3 beats a second. You don't get it on ff or rewind just play. I've cleaned the hell out of the switches so don't have a clue what the problem is!

There are many on here who know a million times more than me so any ideas you guys?

Cheers, Simon

Yes cleaning record bar with some deoxit/ contact cleaner and working switch 20-30 times should fix problem. Panny's are well known for this issue

Youre gonna think I'm really dumb here!...where's the record bar?! Had a look around even pulled the deck out and pressed record a few times to see if anything moving gave me a clue

Can someone less clueless than me point to the right place please :-)

On the PCB beneath the deck there will be like a long thin lever that moves from side to side and is moved by a segment on the tape deck.
Spray it and move it side to side, it will be spring loaded.

Thanks Docs, found it, cleaned it and bobs your uncle it's all working now!

Has a nice sound so chuffed with this. Only complaint is that the led meter is a bit sluggish...both sides work but don't go beyond 2 or 3 lit, the left hand side slightly less...not a big deal but not perfect!

Thanks all, another box back to life! :-D
