of my favorite passtimes. There are 3 goodwill that I hit on a regular basis. I'd say I visit each maybe once a week sometimes less. I do worry the employees there look at me as if I was there to steal something because most of the time I walk out with nothing. But I've become friendly with staff at these places, it helps.
There are 3 swap meets/flea markets I also frequent. My favorite one is about a 45 minute drive in small city of Capitola. They tend to have decent old electronics stuff often. There I picked up my Sanyo M994 and quite a few old walkmans and records (vinyl). In the nearby city of San Jose is what is called the worlds largest outdoor flea market. Been going to this place for year and years - this is how I may have picked up the bug to visit such places, my parents use to take us as younglings. A fun place to visit, they have just about everything, arcade, used car lot, produce row, barber shops, clean bathrooms, etc. You can spend hours here and you can walk for miles. I found my first box here (M90) tucked away in an unlikely spot. When I go now I stick to the section where people sell used items. Nowadays this swap meet, like so many others, has become a place where people sell new junk (loud annoying toys, $1 t-shirts, 10 pairs of socks for $1, you get my point) and everyone sells the same sh*t.
Lately, since my recent JVC 550 find, I've been lurking on craigslist every day. I also stop at interesting looking garage sales. Have found some interesting things but no boomboxes.
I recently discovered a local landfill has a store that is appropriate named Second Chance Mercantile. I’ve been visiting this place about every other week. In fact last week I picked up these 2 Pioneer tuners:

The SX-838 left channel is not working (I suspect the volume control needs replacing) and the SX-850 the tuner string thing needs fixing. But man do they crank! Picked them up for pennies but I don’t plan to keep them. Will try to sell them on craigslist.
So there you have it, that’s my story.
