My biggest box! Clairtone 7978 (Rising 20/20)

My new Clairtone arrived Friday afternoon. Perfect timing for the weekend!

I didn't get to open it until Sunday morning tho...

Shipping box looks good!

I wanted a Rising 20/20, but like the looks of this too...full metal mesh woofer/tweeter grilles! Even says "Rising" on the speaker magnets.

Very nice. I watched that one too (and good for you that I didn't bid because I always end up #2, meaning you get to pay more! ).

However, it's clearly rising all the way. The woofers and VU meters are unmistakable.

1) No, not a Boomboxery member that I'm aware of. I kind of "suggested" how he might pack the radio for survival.
2) Yes, the minty one from Canada.

I haven't bought a new-to-me box in a looooong time so this was kind of exciting. I've been lusting after the Rising 20/20, but did some research and found the Clairtone was the same guts (I still like the name "Rising" better). A fellow co-worker talked me into bidding, saying it might put me in a better mood if I won.

Impressions on this model:

1) Tuner is very good, but not as good as my M70 or M80 (still very adaquate).
2) Shortwave actually picks up several stations!
3) Bass, treble, and loudness control on this box are VERY serious. Lots of boost and cut available.
4) Cassette drive needs its head aligned so I don't know about the sound there yet.
5) Visual impact is stunning. Especially if you carry it on your shoulders. People are like "what the f*ck?!?..."
6) Woofers thump good, highs are nice and crisp. Mids are laid back until the "loudness contour" kicks off.
7) Makes the most of its 5W/Ch amp, but really needs a BTL design like the JVC M90.
8) Sounds great with all types of music.

A "keeper" for me! Proudly on display here at my dumpy house.

I can't wait to do the tuner dial LED mod on it (blue or green)!

Great Box and very beautiful for a square grill box!!!!!
I have the src 2015 and had the 7978 at one time.
Very few cosmetic differences only.
There is a 2015 on http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-RISING-...7ab4da7a6&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14#ht_4602wt_1167 right now with 4 days to go.
