My 80s JIL Candle

Hello everyone! New here, and jumping right in…Hope I’m not making any fatal mistakes! I had a JIL/Candle ghetto blaster (that’s what we called them then, though I get that boombox is the current term) way back in the 80s. I have no idea what happened to it, but today I was at a medical appointment and up on a shelf in the clinic there was the EXACT model I once had. It made me nostalgic and suddenly I NEED to track down the exact model (even if, technically speaking, it’s actually a piece of junk! ). No luck so far, but I don’t know the official model number, though I did take photos. Would anyone knowledgeable be able to direct me to a model # so I can try to narrow my search? I know there’s a forum for “wanted” models here, but I thought I’d start here with trying to figure out exactly what I’m looking for. Photos attached. Thanks for any help you can give!IMG_1644.jpegIMG_1645.jpeg

Thank you! I saw the 2000, but wasn’t sure if it would have had an alternate model number, something more like the JTR1316 you mentioned. I’ll keep searching but I’ve had zero luck tracking it down so far…granted, I’ve only been looking for one day!

I see you're from Toronto as well. I have to ask...can you recall if it bought through Consumers Distributing stores? If so, you might have luck searching through old catalogues online for the model in question.

Consumers was (among others) a house brand and sold lots of Candle/ Citizen branded AV equipment

I think there’s a very good chance it was purchased at Consumers Distributing! I can’t say for certain though, I also wonder if it might have been Zellers, Sears, or even Radio Shack? CD is my top contender though. I’ll see if I can track down those online CD catalogues. Thanks!

Radio Shack had "Realistic" as their brand and Sears used "Viking". I can't recall if Zellers carried JIL products though. Good hunting!

I wondered if those stores had sold various brands? As none of them exist anymore, it will take some digging. But yes, it seems like consumers distributing was almost certainly the place of purchase. Any advice for tracking down the old catalogues online?

I've only found a few online examples from the 80's and many are condensed to show only the toys/ electronic games. There used to be a site called CDarchive or similar but it's no longer online.
I found a Youtube link that scrolls through a catalogue but again it's not complete. Argos in the UK had a similar merchandise format and may be easier to find their catalogues. Good hunting!!
