Hey KIds & Mod FREAKS!!! The circus is back in town & presenting another Chronic Foundries first in boombox innovation...
For years, teens, parents & people all over were always pondering why the Mighty JVC M90 did not have the same strap & buckle hardware to accept JVC Factory issue buckle style straps. It seems odd that the 838, M70 & M80 had the clips on each top corner to accept a buckle style strap, but the M90 was without this really useful, really cool & really strong rugged option for carrying such a heavy unit....
I wanted to remedy that by homebrewing my own hack for JVC straps. I traded Blu_fuz some good condition M90 woofers for some straps & the strap clips that are installed into the M70 radios, for JVC straps.
He sent me 3 complete assemblies & a ton of extra screws which was a total bonus. I used nothing but a ruler, a 3/8" drill/bits & a set of small hand files to shape out the notches. It took about 3-4 hours of farting around to do it. If you want to be professional about it, I'm sure most guys here could bang out a crisp looking job but I wasn't overly concerned about looks. The main thing was it was the first go at it & I wanted it to work as a concept & try to polish up the finish & the details later.....
So take a look:
The screw on the back op the white plastic clip acts as an adjustable fulcrum so that the farther in the screw is, the sharper the angle of the tab has to be to release the buckle, hence the harder & farther you have to push with the screwdriver to unlock the buckle from the blaster.
You can clearly see the set screw on the reverse side of the clip. Out for looser & in for tighter, stiffer.
So, it's good to adjust it for a balance between being too loose & sloppy or too tight & hard to use. The metal piece that all of the 3 cabinet screws use has all of the right anchor points to use on my M90. is perfect for anchoring the corners of the M90, as long as you drill your holes in the rear cabinet to line up right.
Below, you can see the rear cabinet screw hole of the metal bracket...
Here's how it looks with the rear cabinet screw installed It screws directly into the bracket & hold the corners tight together....
More to come....
