About 6 months ago i bought a boombox known as the sharp 939 Its a big 3 peice with a spectrum A

Well At first i was happy with the box but that soon wore off It just sounded awful I wasnt sure why speakers did not sound right etc

the box soon found it's way to the slumber of my cuboard as I was very dissapointed in it.

Fast forward 6 months to yesterday I just had to dig the box out and yup same old it sounded like a bag of sheit.

So i took the speakers apart thinking there must be something i can do, I put 3 spair par of undies in each speaker yes undies

then screwed the boxes back togeather as tight as i could then sprayed all the graphic sliders with electrical sprey cleaned and alighned the heads

BEen playing it all night but on a very low volume but from that i could tell the sound had improved drimatically :-)

Anyway i am now playing it cranked up ITS like using a TOTALLY different box it is MEGA loud and sounds AMAZING

THiS box with RESPECT to m90 owners REALY is an m90 killerI just cant explain it she sounds SUPERB If anything she has to much bass

The only thing that would put the m90 in front for me is her dolby systems cuz anybody that knows me knows i love dolby

With a 10 band eq the sound imaging is endless on this box and the spectrum A is just to die for

These boxes can be had cheap for what they are from china and even apear on ebay usa so it should be quite easy to get one...

one last thing the speakers are REAL flat diaphram square speakers with a hefty mag to boot.

SORRY for doubting you on this one freddie THIS is without a doubt my new fave box

Thanks so much for recommending one fred im after another one :-)

To sum this box up after a good listen Its like a 55 with more bass and on steroids :-)

my only gripe with the pc 55 is the speakers are to damn small ,like putting bicycle wheels a race car ,the pc 55 can bring the pain with the right speakers.

WHOA!!!
This is huge. Undies in the speaker cabinet improve the sound?
Somebody chime in on the science of this please.
Iv'e seen a few speaker cabinets that use a dampening for sound but not many.
If this is good, why didn't they all do it?
Should I try this for my Lasonic L-30?
I've got a fist full of undies right now and I'm getting ready to stuff them.

Cheers OSS :afro:

Tim after all these years it's still apparent that sound quality is your number 1, 2 and 3 desire in a boombox. Given the fact that your obviously not very mobile with your boxes have you ever considered investing in some killer vintage home gear? For what you pay for boomboxes you could be cranking up some really awesome home gear.

I like many here have some of both but I think that's because sound quality or quantity is not a priority when it comes to boomboxes, the home gear takes care of that need.

for me if i don't like the looks of a box i won't even consider it no matter how good it sounds ,i can't get past the ugly long enough to enjoy the sound  i passed up a perfectly good free panny rxdt 680 something cd box i just hated the looks of it.

Floyd if you passed up a free 680 then sound is certainly not your sole priority. :nonono:

I love my 680, 780 and 980 but they are by no means lookers and would be downright dreadfully boring if it wasn't for the few gold touches.

i just didn't want a box i don't like and would never use taking up space ,honestly the only cd box i can stomach is the sony cfd 5 , i have 3 jvc pcx series boxes and they barely cut the mustard with me.
