As I surf the web trying to price the new items I want (those being the JVC RC 550 and the Sony CFS-85S), just curious: What is the MOST you've paid for a box that absolutely sucked, the the LEAST you paid for a grail, or a personal favorite?

Good question.

My memory comes and goes but I think these would be my extremes.

Panasonic RX-5350 $75
Aiwa CS-880 for $675 shipped and it was worse than described. It was a moment of weakness that I will never repeat.

I really like the 880 for it's uniqueness and solid sound but the one I bought for $675 has an amp issue that I believe is likely bad caps.

i won a jvc rc 550 (the big mono) for about 400 -- sounds like a big boring 100 box - tops

1 won a panny platinum bi-amp 680 for 100 -- sounds like 400 --at least

I bought a 100% operational M70 for $99 bin, a 100% panny 680 for $65, and a perfectly mint kaboom with manual for $65. My most expensive box is my $350 pristine M9994k...and worth every penny... . All my boxes (15) were purchased for under $150, except for 2. I am a frugal boombox shopper and look for reasonable deals. The only box I would break the bank for is an M90, and when I am ready for one I will...

the most i have paid for a crappy box has been twenty bucks.
i mean i dont do ebay so pretty much everything gets tested before it comes home.
