I ordered a set off esteemed boomboxery member Bredgeo and am very pleased with the results!

For those looking to order a set I highly recommend them. Be aware though, if your sliders have broken inside the housings you'll need to take the radio apart and prise the broken bits out. This took me much longer than anything else! The slider come unpainted and just need a bit of flash moulding clean up with a sharp knife, then a wash and a very ligh rub down with some sandpaper before you undercoat, then paint, then clear coat.

I'd also recommend getting a full set, then you can make them all the same colour without having to colour match to your existing ones, or repaint your existing ones, but this depends how many you need. If it's half or more; buy a whole set!

They do come up lovely though!

Thanks Brian! Your M90 top-trims ROCK too, but I'll post more on that in my custom M90 thread.

Hot Rotorchrome reel tape supplied by Roman ViennaSound too. Thanks!

Rock On.

I'll second the endorsement: I got a bunch of VZ controls made up by Bredgeo a couple years ago, as part of a trade, and they were SUPERB! Really exact-looking copies, complete with the factory mold-marks on the backside, great color, perfect fit, etc... If you didn't know better, you'd think they were original. HIghly recommended!

Hey Arkay...

Yeah... At that time I was still in France and had all needed to finish them off and coulor/paint them... Now I only pour them and finish them off completely, half way or not at all (depending on the member's wish, this brings the price down)!

Hey all! I have just ordered a full set of sliders and some buttons from the good Brian, and will be looking to paint them when they arrive. Can anyone point me to a post that gives advice on how to paint these things so I can either do it myself or realise that I need to get help from someone?

Just remember, an easy way of getting the broken off pieces out from the holders is to heat up a sharp pin with a flame and then strike it through the offending piece of plastic...wait 20 seconds or so for it to cool down and then pull the pin and the broken bit will come out!

I am happy to join the line of Bredgeo slider lovers. My VZ is still in the shop, so I can't show any pics. However, i did paint my sliders up and put them in position before i sent her off to be fixed and they looked great. I'm sure someone with more patience and attention to detail than me could have them looking even better.
And the hot pin trick certainly was a lifesaver to me as i had just finished putting the unit back together and was looking forward to putting the sliders on when i realised remnants of the broken ones were still stuck in there. My advice though is to be very careful as you can also melt the edges of the slider holders.

Hey Brian - Don't stress! The holds are fine. I drilled a tiny hole in the base of them and used a pin to push the broken parts up our of them - they are not completely destroyed!

If you find that horrifying, I'd hate for you to have seen what I did to the front panel (all fixed now, but let's just say don't ever try and clean perspex with paint thinner - yes, I am an idiot)

Hey Jeremy - hope the VZ comes back in tip top condition. How did you learn to paint the sliders? Is it complicated, or something a novice such as myself could have a crack at?

Hi Andre

They aren't difficult to paint. You just need to be patient and prepare them well. Same with any painting job really.

I went to a model shop in the city and bought a little jar of model paint and a small brush. I took a slider with me and matched the colour the best I could.

I then prepared the sliders by giving them a gentle sand back using sandpaper. I then simply painted them. I found that the first coat was very patchy as the paint wouldn't stick to the sliders very well. So I let the sliders dry, gave them another gentle sand back, and then applied a second coat which adhered much better. I then gave them a third coat, and I was finally satisfied with the results.

I found that I got better at painting the sliders as I went along, so I would recommend getting a full set regardless of how many sliders you need and you can choose the ones that look the best.

You definitely can do it yourself.

Good luck!

Great advice, Jeremy! Thanks a lot. I did indeed order the full set of sliders, so will have a few spare for future requirements and to overcome the inevitable stuff-ups.
