Hi there I was just wondering if anybody has any more info or knowledge on a Sharp GF-555X that I've recently picked up, particularly which market it was aimed at. It's different to the GF555E that I have in that the 2 pin AC power input is different, more of a square type. There is what looks like Arabic writing on a warning sticker on the rear, the radio has FM, SW1, SW2 and AM, the FM ext. Antenna connections are also different. Finally there's a badge on the top right with what looks like the initials E S HC but this could be just stuck on by an organisation that owned it previously. This is merely curiosity getting the better of me but would be grateful for info.

The letters E, S, and (probably) W are from a sticker sheet that came with several models of early Sharp boomboxes. The sheet had multiple quantities of letters and numbers that you could place on your boombox. For some reason, Sharp decided on using an Old English style font.

As for the label with arabic text: I bought a Sharp GF-9000 in the Middle East in 1983 and this also has a similar/the same label on the rear, although I don't recall what was printed on the label I felt it was an instruction to select the correct voltage due to the label being positioned by the voltage selector. I may be wrong but that's what how I remember it, the label is still in situ although the text has worn away.

Very interesting Fatdog I've never heard of that until now, so the first owner probably selected his own initials from the sheet. 👍

Thanks MyOhMy.

The X stands for Worldwide and has the transformer with multiple taps for all voltages.

X = Export Not for Japan Market

I'm pretty sure my Sharp GF-800 has that Arabic sticker on the back too, I'll try and get a picture when I'm home
