The TDK 3 speaker still sits in my mind as a new-age grail. I love so many things about this radio. We all know they should have had a rechargeable battery pack, Bluetooth, and real telescoping antenna but she is beautiful and big. Really great sound and looks like it means business. Glad to have gotten mine when I did.

Hahaha, some people had problems with theirs. I never did the software upgrade on mine and it works great. Run it 9 hours straight at work for a month at a time, it's wonderful.

What was the story? There was a software upgrade that went badly Blu?

I have no idea why they had problems. I was just noting that I never did the software update and everything is still working fine.

Same, have a 2 speaker one here as my pc speaker, works brilliant and sounds great. Will definitely keep my eyes open for a 3 speaker.

I honestly never use the USB port, which is a downfall, but too risky for me. The 3.5mm line jack and RCA inputs work just fine. The only reason I would even try to use the USB would be to run a USB BT receiver.

I recall some also had problems with the knob controller, like broken contacts or something.

Everytime I see one of these, they want too much money to take the risk. Or it gets bid up so high, by bidders who probably don't know the risk they're taking.

These things were over designed but I think they are great. The software issue is only a noob one nothing to worry about. The problem is because they are so heavy when they do a face plant it smashes the volume and toggle controls. You can't get parts so they were returned to the retailer for refund so big losses on this one.

If durability, reliability and parts availability is not an issue, then sure, the 3 speaker TDK could be thought of as a modern grail.

Bluetooth and a rechargeable battery is a basic requirement for a modern blaster though. :-)

^ this I agree with. It seems TDK jumped into the market without enough research into what the future might hold for options on blasters. Could you imagine how much more they would have charged if these radios came with rechargeable batteries? The 3 speaker really isn't something you want to lug around because the front is sooooo shiney black silky smooth. How could you ever transport this and not think you will ding the front panel and have to stare at the scar you made FOREVER?! I would be horrified. I still have the plastic on mine.

A year or two after introduction, they added Bluetooth to their lineup but also switched to a different speaker setup that didn't sound as good

Those 2nd gen TDKs with bluetooth sounded no where near as good as the originals, much smaller, and cheaper feeling. Never came back with the 3 speakers facing forward either.

Sometimes USB can be useful for when BT isn't practical, put all your tunes on a microSD card with a stubby adapter.

LOL is that little guy one of these? Those things POUND! If it gets too close to a tape though it'll erase it.
