Picked this up today for a couple dollars. I've always been a fan of Mitsubishi electronics of this era ever since I picked up an HS-U69 VCR years ago.

Both speaker wires were cut and taped back together with scotch tape, so I retaped that. The left speaker is a bit quieter than the right, with some scratchyness. Hard to notice when both are going but hopefully there's something I can do about that.

On the back you can see my hack-job to run the line-in wires through the battery compartment and into a 1/8" jack. If you put the handle down, there's a perfect spot to prop an mp3 player in there. Now if only I could mount a dock in there...

Welcome aboard! Nice find as Mitsunishi boxes aren't seen that often stateside. The issue with the sound may be as simple as contact cleaner. Are you familiar with working on electronics?

Thanks for the welcome!

I've done a bit of work on electronics, but not stereos. The static is definitely a problem with the speaker while the volume issue is originating from inside (you can tell by swapping the speakers). Oddly enough, the left peakmeter is usually two bars (+6 dB) above the right, while the left speaker is lower in volume. Switching to mono equals the peakmeters but the left is still quieter. Listening with headphones works fine so I don't think the peakmeters are accurate.

I readjusted the wires on the speaker and the crackling is gone, so I'll open up the unit some time to do some cleaning. Just need to find a stupidly long screwdriver that will reach the deep screws. :-P
