Hello. Am new to boombox collection. Came across this jr 5123 local.
I did some research on this model but just can't find more info or pic on this unit.

The closest one is Diatone jr 511, no actual pic for 511 though, the next similar model is jr 6123 in the rarest boombox topic. But this model is different from jr 511 in that it has thee bands radio while jr 511 has 2 bands

Was thinking Mitsubishi made not many of this model and then changed the brand under Diatone. The serial number of mine is smaller than 50.

Any one can share some info on this unit ? Thanks.

Diatone is a domestic Japanese Mitsu brand.
This boomer isn't an internal Japanese one (multi-voltage but no 100V supply).

I actually checked out all your pics on boombox from a Russian website. beside this one, I have only see one pic of a Mitsubishi JR 6123. it looks like mitsubishi made a few models for overseas market under mitsubishi brand, it might because the Diatone brand is not as well known overseas as mitsubishi. function wise, this one is inbeween of diatone JR511 and JR611.

on the side of the box, it has Beat Cancel function, not sure what it is for.

thanks for viewing

One wouldn't need it those days.

Beat cancel aKa Beat Cut, Beat Frequency Oscillator (BFO), etc.
citing one of forums (http://www.vintage-radio.net/)
:
this switch would shift the bias oscillator frequency if it caused interference on the AM radio station you were recording.
it was harmonics of the tape deck bias oscillator that might 'beat' with the (AM) chosen radio station frequency you might be wanting to record. SO if it did you flicked the switch.

But who wants to record AM in the first place

Mitsubishi was also selling boomers under Jeagam brand.
AFAIK, mostly in Asia and in Japan as well.
I used to have a Diatone JR-611, needed to sell it though as it was a simple stereo and I was limited in terms of storage space.

Still have Diatone JR-711 which is a totally different matter, IMO, one of the best classic one-piecers ever both in appearance and sound wise.
Unfortunately no aKa's of JR -711 exist under Mitsu/Jeagam brands, at least I've never seen/heard of one.
