Mind blowing restoration work on AKAI CS-F33R deck

I am currently working on some transport issues on my AKAI CS-F33R auto reverse deck and found this YouTube video.
I don't know how one can tear down the whole deck to pieces and rebuild it like this.
Outstanding work!

Very risky in my opinion, especially since virtually all hard parts are now obsolete by the manufacturer. All it takes is a single small part, especially tiny plastic ones to break or any part for that matter to be lost, spring stretched, etc and it could be game over. Even if you were a master craftsman and could fabricate small parts, the fit and finish and tension of these small parts are critical to proper operation as anyone who’s worked on complicated decks knows, how finicky they can be. My philosophy is to disassemble as little as possible to effect a repair to minimize these risks.

This is insane. If you have specialised in one model like the Walkman repair guys, maybe. But tear down a random (and sophisticated) deck like this and put it back together is a marvel to me. Especially if it works afterwards!

It might be a great way to show off your skills but aside from that, I would advise against this much of a teardown. I own a lot of vintage stuff and the one thing that has served me well is to take apart only what is necessary for repair. There are times when you're already in there and there's a component that typically fails, or is known to fail, which requires the same disassembly again to get to it that it makes sense to replace. But aside from that, your chances of success deminish the more in depth you go.

But it makes for a great video for us to watch 8-)
