Picked this up this morning, a mid 1980s Hitachi 3d8E. the recording deck works, the other does not (yet) theres an incredibly bad crackle on all the sliders, but otherwise its fully working. I havent opened it yet but its filthy on the outside so im expecting it to be packed with dirt on the inside.... it has 60watts power output, not as loud as my sharp but in terms of bass its in a league of its own!!

I'll update this with my progress later

I now have a problem with the hitachi. i was removing the cassette deck to reattatch a belt when the box died on me.... it has no power going into it and it doesnt even turn on anymore :-/

I am hoping it is just a blown fuse :hmmm:

any input would be appreciated

im hoping its just something along the lines of a blown fuse :hmmm:

any help would be appreciated

ive removed the fuse for a closer look, its a 160MA glass fuse.... im assuming there should be a wire filament inside, however as you can see on mine its empty so i'll replace the fuse and see what happens :hmmm:

There should be a wire running through it yeah. Thats the beauty about glass fuses, you can see when they are blown!

Thats what i thought, the filament must have completely disintegrated because theres no sign of it inside :hmmm:

Ive bought some cheap fuses off the net for a couple quid, they should be here by thursday and hopefully i'll pop one in and the hitachi will be kicking again..... until then, fingers crossed it hasent blown one of the capacitors around it also.

Update 15/9/2011

I have put some new fuses in and the good news is they havent blown again!! bad news is the hitachi still does not work..... initially i put the fuse in and it powered up, but as soon as i pressed play on one of the decks it went again, and the fuses are fine...... any ideas?? it must have blown a capacitor or something around it

thanks

its a bit of a gamble of whether it'll work or not, so if you can do it really cheap i'll have the power brick off you. i could use the top panel as well

cheers

Its a shame its dead, it looks sweet all cleaned up! :w00t:

I like the hitachi 3D series, it would be cool to have all of them.

:breakdance:

you can buy it from me if you like, it doesnt have to work to look good as part of a collection :-D

Well this is true! It would look nice in the collection! Have you tryed taking it to a repair shop or anything? What sort of price would you consider for it?

well youre probably not going to use it much anyway if you have many others, and you'll save about £40 on a working one..... anyway let me know if you change your mind, i should still have it in 4 weeks time :-D

cheers, sean
