Seriously. I was wondering the same thing recently. All my decks have it...and generally the record/erase head has an "SA" emblem. Maybe to indicate it is capable recording?

It's a line of heads JVC designed, it stands for Sen-Alloy. Sen is short for sendust, a hard, low-wear alloy, so Sen-Alloy is either a creative way to say sendust (since it's an alloy), or JVC tried to improve on sendust's composition of metals and needed to give it a name.
